antiques: The Spunky Junker now. Two Sisters once. Searcy AR. Junk or antiques! - 05/27/23 08:11 AM

The Spunky Junker
I walked in, sunglasses on, and heard a nice "Hello" but couldn't tell where it came from.  There were so many lovely things in this newly-opened The Spunky Junker antique store that I had to have my sunglasses revert to inside vision.  Then I could see Terre McCord behind her desk with a welcoming smile.
This location at 511 W. Pleasure has had many stores since I got to Searcy.  My favorite was Two Sisters owned by Norma Burgin and Mary Hudson.  Times were different.  At that time I needed stuff for my house.  Now I need to get rid … (2 comments)

antiques: Doors! Doors? Dates back to perhaps 1884. Searcy antiques for sale! - 07/13/22 07:38 AM

Beautiful old doors!
Some interesting Searcy AR history has just surfaced and there are beautiful antique doors for sale.  At the corner of Market and Gum in Searcy stands Bliss Salon in an old building that the court house says was built in 1884 and was renovated a few years ago by Bliss Salon owners.  I did a blog about it and you have to stop now and go back to read the blog.  Click here,
Those buyers loved the old doors that were either in or around it and saved them.  They are scaling down and will part with them at their … (3 comments)

antiques: FOUND! Antique tool, hammer, weapon! Found at my own house. - 10/02/21 07:37 AM

Homemade Hammer?  Weapon?
I stumbled across this the other day at my own home!  Has it been here forever? Did it come from one of my daughter's estate sales?  A gift from above for my protection?  I don't know but it is definitely interesting.  It is definitely made by hand by some person who needed a tool.
It looks old and weathered and perhaps the scraped bark was to keep the hand of the user from bruising.  Looks like a tiny hole with perhaps a nail to keep the handle secure is on both sides.

antiques: Searcy AR has no museum? Look again! Try visiting Old Hippy. - 10/12/20 11:50 AM

As good as a real museum....except you may purchase things!
We are all tired, bored, lonely during this Covid year.  Today I made a visit to Searcy AR's "Old Hippy" store that is located at 1216 S Benton.  I already have too much stuff in my house to be shopping to buy more but I DO like to look.  In fact, I like museums.  But we don't have one close by.
While browsing through all the treasures that are on display out there I had a sudden thought.  This is just like a museum!  There is history all over the place.  Old pictures.  … (3 comments)

antiques: Searcy Art Gallery. The Black House. Searcy AR historic site. - 06/29/19 02:50 PM

Leaders of Searcy Art Gallery
A treasure?  Yes, Searcy Art Gallery is not just an art gallery that displays art.  It is really a historic treasure.  It is called The Black House, named for the Black family who built and lived there for so long.  Yesterday, June 29, 2019, the house was dressed up for company like it would have been done in the past.
A beautifully dressed table with special prepared foods is shown partially in the photo above.  A reception was held to feature "Small Works on Paper " touring exhibit and was held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  Everything was … (4 comments)
