We just had 3 consequetive days of rain. Good, right? Yes, very good, as we're in a horrible drought here in Austin TX. However, I'm very disappointed. Before the rain started, we were at 626.36 feet in Lake Travis. Three days later, we're only at 626.74 feet.
I expected it to be up a heck of a lot more than that. We're trying to move up from the third lowest water levels in history. I know the ground needs a lot of water, and much of it got soaked in, but I expected more run-off and also more of the water … (8 comments)

Summer decided to make another appearance here in Austin TX as we hit Triple Digits again this weekend. I had this brilliant idea to go to Lake Austin because why would many people be out on the water after Labor Day??

Lake Austin is a constant level lake, so even though Austin TX is having a very bad drought right now, there is still water in the lake. We usually go to Lake Travis, but all the boat ramps on Lake Travis are closed because the water is low there. Lake Austin is really just a "river", but history calls it a lake.

Lake Travis ISD keeps its EXEMPLARY rating for its second year in a row!! I knew my school taxes were paying for something!!
The Exemplary rating is the highest rating offered by the Texas Education Agency. How does the TEA determine the ratings? They use several different factors such as standardized test scores, graduation rates, drop out rates, and individual ethnic group performance.

Austin TX Weather is just plain H-O-T right now! Today will be at least 105 degrees again and marks day 41 in triple digits... all I can say is that I'm really happy that I was pregnant last summer and not this summer!! Back in 2009, we were about to break the all time record of 69 days in triple digits, but we only hit 68 days. What a bummer. I also wrote that I never want to try for that record again... Pace Bend Park in Spicewood TX is a great place to spend those triple digit degree days!! Pace Bend Park is off the Pedernales River that is a branch off from Lake Travis. The water is pretty low right now, but that just meant we had to be careful about some of the old tree stumps sticking up on the beach. This is a park where many people bring their trailers and RV's and camp over night. Some people just bring tents, but there is 1000s of acres of land for camping and such. Since Lake Travis in Austin TX was very low for several months, now that we've gotten rain, look at what has washed into the water.
It's not all over, mainly at the Jonestown section of Lake Travis. Even my daughter pointed at it and said, "icky!"

Lake Travis Austin TX is currently ABOVE its average lake level!! Austin TX, along with Central Texas Hill Country as a whole, has been in a two year drought. Lake Travis sustained at the beginning, but the Summer of 2009 was hard. By early September, this is what Lake Travis looked like at my family's cove. Absolutely NO water, as levels were around 625 feet!
It is just a few months later, and as of this past weekend, Lake Travis is now over 670 feet!! And the better news? It's raining today, and will rain most of the week!! This … (13 comments)

AquaPalooza is coming to Lake Travis in Austin TX in July 2010. No exact date has been set yet, but it's supposed to be one of the last two weekends in July.
What is AquaPalooza? Aqua means Water. AquaPalooza's debut was in 2006 and it's a huge, FREE, on-water celebration open to anyone who shows up. Today is Blog Action Day. This is the day every blogger across the world is supposed to write on the same topic. This year's topic is Climate Control.
How is the climate effecting us or me personally? This was the hottest summer ever recorded in Austin TX's history. Including the overnight hours, where it's supposed to be cooler weather, our temperatures averaged over 89 degrees.
We had 68 days over 100 degrees and most of those were at 106 and 107 degrees. We were 1 day short of the record for 69 days over 100 degrees that was set way back … (7 comments)
