travis county realtor: Do You Run A Business or a Circus? - 02/25/10 07:31 AM
I am a TREC (Texas Real Estate Commission) approved instructor and teach classes every so often on different real estate topics. About a month ago, I taught one of my classes, and oops, this lady didn't have her $20.  Being the nice person I am, I allowed her to pay me later... Later hasn't arrived yet... At the class, she gave me her business card, but I don't think she does business from it.  She has 3 phone numbers on her card, though two are scratched out.  She also has a Hotmail email address, not very professional. After class, she asked … (16 comments)

travis county realtor: "My Husband Likes the Other Realtor..." WHOA - WHAT?? - 02/21/10 07:55 AM
On Friday, I had to sit at the Texas Association of REALTORS' Winter session for the Professional Standards and Grievance Committee training class that is now mandatory each year instead of every two years.  Of course, since it's MCE credit, no external distractions, meaning no phone and no computer. However, the multi-tasker that I am, right before it started, I checked my email and received a message from a buyer who found five properties she wanted to see and had already spoken with a mortgage person, yadda yadda.  I responded back immediately saying that I was at an all day seminar … (20 comments)

travis county realtor: Smelling Like an Ashtray is Not a Good Impression - 12/11/09 02:18 AM
Everyone has a right to do whatever they want to their own bodies, and I respect that, but you should also respect others around you and recognize that you could be invading their space as well. I had a meeting the other day, in a closed space, and I had to smell an ashtray for over an hour.  No, there wasn't an actual ashtray in the room, but two of the gentlemen who sat in on my meeting smelled like one. If you're going to smoke, great, fine, they're your lungs and your health, I could careless.  However, if you know … (23 comments)

travis county realtor: Hey Mortgage People - Do You Want to Grow your Business or Not?? Get over yourself!! - 11/16/09 11:53 AM

Hey Austin Mortgage People, do you want to grow your businesses or not?? Last week, I received an email from a mortgage "professional" saying that she read my blog and thought it was funny and informative, and would I be willing to meet with her so we could do business in the future. As always, I responded very promptly with the following email: Thank you for your email.  I am actually looking to add some new mortgage professionals to my back pocket.  I don’t know how much of my blog you read, but I’m a fairly new transplant from Dallas … (21 comments)

travis county realtor: I already have a buyers' agent, but I don't like to drag her out to view houses... - 11/10/09 07:43 AM
"I already have a buyers' agent, but I don't like to drag her out to view houses." HUH? This is a message I received earlier today.  This guy, as serious as could be, called to ask if I would show him a house that is over an hour away later this week, but "preferably this evening". What?  Did I hear him correctly?  I actually played the message five times to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding it.  Why would I show a house where I wasn't the listing agent nor the buyers' agent?  Just for kicks? I pulled it up in the … (32 comments)

travis county realtor: How Many Kinds of Ants are There? - 08/07/09 03:05 AM
Did you know there are about 10,000 species of ants?  I have no idea how a tiny little creature could look so different from the next to come up with 10,000 differences, but that's amazing.

The most common I hear referred to are red ants, black ants, and carpenter ants.  I guess I need some education in 9,997 other different kinds of ants.

I had an inspection on a house where the termite guy found "acrobat" ants.  Were the ants doing back-bends and cartwheels for him to determine that?

Some ants bite and others don't.  I'm allergic to … (15 comments)

travis county realtor: Angel's Icehouse Restaurant in Spicewood TX - 08/06/09 01:57 AM
Angel's Icehouse Restaurant in Spicewood, TX is a great family restaurant.

Many restaurants claim to be "family" restaurants, so what makes Angel's Icehouse different?  They are a full service, regular restaurant, but also have a playscape area for the kids to play.  Many fast food restaurants have play equipment, but you don't expect to see it at a "regular" restaurant.

They also have an entire outdoor entertainment area for live music, or just to have large gatherings.  Picnic tables everywhere that can be moved around to accommodate the size of your group.

Think it's too hot to … (9 comments)

travis county realtor: Another Austin TX Creature - 08/05/09 02:56 AM
Every chance I get, I've been posting pictures of the creatures and critters I see in and around my house.  Some look friendly, while other's look not-so-friendly.
Here is our latest friend that we encountered.

Oscar (the dog) didn't quite know what to do with him. He was scared at first as it hopped around.  But then he put his paw out in friendly play.  Mr. Toad allowed me to snap a couple of pictures before hopping under the BBQ grill for "safety".

This blog is to help educate Buyers, Sellers and even other Realtors across the country.  Each market is different and the way Real Estate is done is different.  Austin Real Estate is completely different than Dallas, California and Florida and everywhere else in between.  Some times there will be other things besides real estate as I like to rant and rave as much as the next!!  Come back often!
