social media: Working on Proclamations - And Having Deep Thoughts - 12/23/11 04:36 AM
As the year 2012 looms, once again I am working on proclamations for what may be one of the greatest years of my life. About 3/4 done, or so I thought, I had a thought strike: Am I really wasting my time on certain social media sites, specifically, Klout, Empire Avenue, and even Google Plus?
Real estate coach Darin Persinger issued a challenge on Google Plus recently: Is this site really bringing you business? Have you made any money from it? I admit no, we have not, but we haven't made money from any of the other more popular social media sites … (8 comments)

social media: Real Estate SEO & Social - 11/03/11 06:02 AM
Real Estate SEO is getting more complicated all the time, and stumps even the experts! Case in point: An SEO guru in one of my Facebook groups, Asif Anwar, got his first post featured in Search Engine Journal's website. (Congratulations, Asif!) His very last words in the article are "we are really not sure how Google will use the site block information. So, let's hope they make good use of it." Read the rest of this informative article here: Is SERP Bounce a Ranking Signal or a Quality Factor for SEO?
Google also uses your +1s and links on social media … (7 comments)

social media: Want an RSS feed for your Google+ stream? EASY! - 08/05/11 02:02 AM
I'm really excited because I'm in a group of people on Facebook who follows and comments on each other's stuff. One of the things we do is subscribe to each other's RSS feeds. This morning I discovered an exciting tool to convert your Google+ stream into an RSS feed. It looks great in Google Reader!
First, you want to find your Google ID number consisting of 21 digits. Yes, you are just a number to them. Did you think otherwise? ;) My number is 105713192106464482061.
How do you find this number? Go to your profile page (not the home stream page, … (27 comments)

social media: Are You Tired of Popular Posts Taking Up Google Plus Space? - 07/19/11 03:19 AM
I have an answer! Let me show you what I'm talking about:

This is what Google Plus looks like. Google Plus is Google's answer to Facebook. While there are similarities, there are differences as well - some better, some not.
As you can see in the illustration above, one of the differences is that Google's font is much larger than Facebook's. When people comment on your post, it takes up a lot of space on your screen. Wouldn't it look a lot better like this?

Much better! First, you need to install this:http://huyz.us/google-plus-me/
It only takes a second! Then, … (15 comments)

social media: Why Use Twitter? - 03/31/11 05:01 AM
In my last article "Twitter 101" I promised a "Twitter 102" article, and it's coming. However, I wanted to address the question that is on a lot of people's minds: Why use Twitter?
For me, Twitter is a way to get news of interest to me, instantly. It's a way to keep up with events that I'd love to go to but can't for whatever reason. It's a great way to talk to anyone important or interesting without having to go through gatekeepers.
Most importantly, I LEARN from those I admire. For some reason, to me, Twitter is more of a … (19 comments)

social media: Twitter 101 - 02/26/11 04:22 PM
I still see a lot of confusion on Twitter. The comment I get the most often on Twitter is "I don't know how to use it." All I can do is tell you how I use Twitter, and what I see other people doing. This does not mean my way is right, just an option.
"I don't know how to talk to people on Twitter." First of all, you have to be Following someone in order to talk to them. I don't care if it's Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump) or your best friend. (One of these days I know Donald Trump will … (72 comments)

social media: How to get people to engage with you on Facebook and Twitter - 01/21/11 05:15 AM
I'm no social media guru, but I've been really paying attention to those people who are, especially real estate agents. There is a cool website that measures your influence, not just on Facebook but Twitter as well, called Klout.  http://klout.com
I've been watching my Klout score slowly rising. I started out at 19 a few months ago and now I'm up to 49. Chris Brogan, who is THE social media guru in my eyes, has a Klout score of 84 as of today. Just like ActiveRain points, it's really fun to watch your score rise.
How am I doing it, you … (2 comments)
