Rotary Sponsored WaCanId Bicycle Ride - Unplanned Start
The International Selkirk Loop WaCanId Bicycle Ride successfully departed Sandpoint Idaho at City Beach and Trinity's, at 8AM,  on September 12, 2016.  The start did take an unexpected turn however.
I was participating in the WaCanId ride this year as well as having been on the planning committee.  I was a bit apprehensive of the first days ride knowing it was longer in mileage than I had ridden before along with a climb longer and steeper than I had yet to be on.  While that post will follow it is important to this post in … (9 comments)

WaCanId 2016 International Selkirk Loop Bicycle Ride
The big week is here.  Kick off dinner tonight, at Trinity's Restaurant, for WaCanId 2016 bicycle ride around the International Selkirk Loop.  371 miles over 6 days with a layover day in Nelson BC.  With summer activities winding down this will be one of the last out of Sandpoint Idaho.
I am looking forward to this year as this is the ride you have heard me talking about, and training for.
First day will be the biggest with close to 100 miles starting in Sandpoint Idaho and finishing the day in Coleville Washington.  The elevation gain … (11 comments)

sandpoint: Welcome to Sandpoint Idaho ! - 08/30/16 02:02 PM
Welcome to Sandpoint Idaho !
When driving home, across the Longbridge, and back into Sandpoint Idaho I was so very pleased to see a couple of new 'artistic' type welcome signs going up.  These will greet people as they enter Sandpoint either from the north or from the south.
While the days are growing shorter, with light, it did not warrant the back lighting to be turned on when taking this pic.  I am very anxious to see this with the blue having light behind it.

So when coming to Sandpoint Idaho enjoy the new welcome signs as well as other new street … (16 comments)

Expansive views northern most portion Idaho Panhandle
While driving north, from Bonners Ferry to the Canadian border, for the WaCanId Ride 2016 meeting. in Rossland BC. I was yet again taken back.  The beauty and the expansive views, that stretch in all directions,  are amazing.

This is what will greet the WaCanId bicycle riders as they cross the border back into North Idaho and continue to move south through Bonners Ferry and ultimately finish in Sandpoint Idaho.   Not a bad start to the final day of riding
(final day 6 approximately 80 miles - 371 miles overall- Sept. 12 thru 17th '16). … (11 comments)

sandpoint: Wait 5 minutes ! - 08/07/16 02:16 PM
Wait 5 minutes !
It was a wonderful morning in North Idaho.  I had checked at two listings, in Bonners Ferry, to be sure both were secure and locked.  Stopped in at Super One Grocery to get Halley an 'in the cup' Ice Cream Cone.  One of her favorite treats.
I just could not help but appreciate how beautiful the day was so I tweeted:
*************************************************************************
It was shortly afterwards the temps had dropped to 71 and this was moving in.
**************************************************************************
And about 1/2 hour later while waiting at office to write an offer I took this.

Goal Achieved ! Set em high for better rewards
A couple months back I posted I may have made a mistake in a goal I had set.  It was rather lofty considering not having been on a bike for about 35 years other than a few times last year.
The goal to ride the "Chafe 150" 80 mile ride.  I started training by concentrating on loosing weight.  Not a huge amount but enough that I would not be uncomfortable on the bike when first starting.  My next big obstacle was realizing the saddle time needed was less than what would be available … (12 comments)

Sandpoint's "Lost in the 50's" successful on two counts
Rain was threatening all day Friday, and as the 6pm start time for the Lost in the 50's parade neared the sprinkles of rain began coming down.  That was the worst it got for the parade itself.  Streets stayed lined with hearty North Idahoans and visitors alike.
While not perfectly clear skies on Saturday it stayed dry till late afternoon for the car show held in the closed off streets of Downtown Sandpoint.  Most of the many other events related to Lost in the 50's are indoors so the weather and rain could not dampen … (7 comments)

Sandpoint Idaho turning the page from Winter to Spring
As the season slowly turns in Sandpoint North Idaho, from the winter months, it is creating some beautiful scenes.  This is Upper Pack River as it passes an off grid getaway cabin, I have listed, while making its way to Lake Pend Oreille.  Click here to enjoy the full tour.  of the cabin in Sandpoint Idaho.

North Idaho showing itself off today !
By now you know my affinity for the trains traveling through North Idaho.  I would have regretted not rushing ahead a bit to catch this image.  Other than cropping and frame, no touch up to this image.  Amazing.
Lake Cocolalla, just a few miles south of Sandpoint Idaho, with incredibly crisp clear blue skies and cotton clouds.

sandpoint: Are you just 'listing' a home? - 03/14/16 03:09 PM
Are you just 'listing' a home?
Rain Silverhawk and I have just listed an off grid home in Naples Idaho.  The home is a beautiful off grid, and one would never guess it to be completely off grid and self sufficient unless told.
Spring, creek, pond, solar, back up generators with auto start, wood burning cook stove and heating stove.  This home has it all.
Here is a recent text from the seller:  "Also would like to say thank you.  I didn't expect this much of a response out the gate.  Hopefully it sells ASAP."  Keep in mind this home was listed recently and the sellers came … (18 comments)

sandpoint: What is my Sandpoint Idaho 83864 home worth? - 03/12/16 12:45 PM
What is my Sandpoint Idaho 83864 home worth?
3 bedroom 2 bath homes are the most popular in Sandpoint Idaho.  The 83864 zip code encompasses a wide variety of home styles.  This report is for the in town, or in city, 3 bedroom 2 bath homes.
Currently there are 8 homes available in town of Sandpoint Idaho.  The prices range from a low of $215,000 to high of $895,000.  For detailed report click here.
What I find most interesting is there has been 1 three bedroom 2 bath home sold over January and February of 2016.  This is somewhat misleading in that both … (6 comments)

Pleasant Surprise at Bonners Mall Theaters this week
A bit restless when heading home from Sandpoint the other night I decided to stop at the Bonners Mall Cinema's and see 'London Has Fallen'.  The movie was OK to watch but the best reason I can come up with to justify this evaluation is that I enjoyed the characters and really enjoy the work of Mr. Gerald Butler although this is really stretching it.  I would wait for DVD, with this movie, if watching it at all.
My surprise came in getting in just as the lights went out.  There were people scattered about … (11 comments)

Traveling Home from the Seattle Outdoor / Bike Show
With a successful show for WaCanId International Selkirk Loop and Chafe 150 bike rides just finished I was grateful for leaving behind the rainy/stormy skies of Seattle and seeing no serious clouds ahead, except in the very far distance.  Clear dry roads, for my drive home,  until reaching the Sandpoint North Idaho area.  Fortunate indeed.

Sandpoint's Dog Beach soon to be underwater
As we head into spring and summer months Lake Pend Oreille is brought back to its higher levels.  This will cover most of Dog Beach that shows during the fall and winter months.  Dog Beach being to the Northeast of the Long Bridge as you head north from Sagle.  This photo is to the east side of the RR tracks, and looking north,  which will soon be 6 to 8 feet under Lake Pend Oreille waters.

Perfect Image with the longer days stretching out
With the darker hours rapidly giving way to the extended daylight I was pleasently surprised to glance over and see this perfect image of Halley imposed on one of my pictures as she was sitting on the couch, with me, receiving some rubs and late afternoon love talkin.  Both cowboy and Halley seem to be looking to far off horizons only they can see.

Signs of an early spring in North Idaho
While walking Halley yesterday morning I could not help but wonder at the drastic change in the landscape, in and around Bonners Ferry Idaho, from only a week ago.  Temperatures have warmed to the mid 40's with rain on the valley floors.  The snow has all but disappeared from the ground.  North Idaho seldom disappoints in showing off her four seasons.
