Hana Maui vacant land market report June 2016.
It's not a big place, so there's only 6 land sales a year. This makes it challenging to get a property sold, so we have priced it well below appraised and assessed values. That should make it very attractive to a buyer looking for a large wooded parcel with nice ocean views.

Q. When I search Zillow, I've noticed that not all of the listings show up. Then I thought I'd switch to Trulia or Realtor.com and they have a different number of homes for sale than Zillow. What gives? Which sites are correct?

Just a quick trip with the Hipstamatic Camera app as we walk through Makawao Maui Hawaii.
This cool little town has kept in touch with the past by restoring and preserving the old shops and buildings. The country vibe is alive and well.
Rustic and rusty is OK and makes for a lot of charm in these boutique shops.
Take a break from any activity and grab a bite. Park your bike or horse a while.
It's always fun to poke your head in the door of any of these stores, galleries and restaurants.

We love to be growing our own oranges in Haiku Maui!
While it's taken some time for the trees to mature, it's been worth the wait of about 20 years. It wouldn't have taken so long normally, but due to many adverse conditions these trees were slow to grow and produce fruit. We had to amend the soil and there were a few years when we didn't give them enough attention. But since some time has passed, the ground is much more fertile and the windbreaks have protected these fruit trees. Now we can enjoy some juicy ripe oranges right off the … (16 comments)

Not that many bank owned condos for sale on Maui
You would think there would be a lot of bank owned/REO condos in a resort area like Maui. Considering there are thousands of condos, I'm surprised to see there are only a few REOs in our MLS. There are probably still more coming, but for now this is what's available.
Currently there are only 16 of these bank owned foreclosure condominiums for sale, and 6 of those are under contract, leaving only 10 Active listings.

There's a new development on the horizon in Upcountry Maui, being offered exclusively by Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers. Kua'Aina Mauka is going to be a 32 home subdivision off Makani Road and Haleakala Highway in the Pukalani area. 16 houses and 16 little cottages will share a total of 4.69 acres, at an elevation of about 1,400 - 1,500 feet.

Paia, Spreckelsville, Kuau - on Maui's north shore - is a pretty hot market for real estate sales. There's usually only 15-25 homes for sale, and maybe a condo or two. Where do I buy gravel on Maui, and have it delivered?
If you live in the countryside, like in Haiku Maui, or maybe Makawao or Kula, you're going to need some gravel from time to time. I'm talking a truckload, not just a little scoop. After a rainy season your gravel road might need freshening up. Maybe you want to improve your Maui property for sale and make the driveway nice, with no pot holes or mud. Who you gonna call?

If you follow my blog you'll know I post a lot of pictures of the exceptional food at Mama's Fish House, or photos of the views. There's no denying the food is the star of the show when dining here, but there's more to the whole experience than just that.
They also have beautiful tropical gardens for guests to enjoy while they wait. Take a look at these pictures as an example, and you'll see what I mean. Lots of palms, ti leaves, bromeliads, dracaenas, giant taro leaves and more.

Buyers like to get out and drive by some homes for sale to see if they look good from the outside. What they don't know is they are probably missing some of the best features that are hidden from view.
These beautiful swimming pools are so private you won't even catch a glimpse on a drive by. Some of these homes are hard to find and very private and maybe that's what you're looking for.

Haiku Market grand opening - new owners, same great place
We recently had a change of ownership at the local Haiku Market, in downtown Haiku Maui. This little grocery store has been growing up and filling out over the past 14 years or so, with a great selection of items. The expansion and remodeling paid off, and they were bought out by the company that owns Foodland grocery stores here in Hawaii. But you won't be seeing the Foodland sign over the door... it will stay Haiku Market.

Paia Fishmarket has consistently good food, great fresh fish!
When it's time to eat lunch or dinner in Paia Maui, the Paia Fishmarket restaurant can be counted on for good fresh fish and other choices. I tend to always get this delicious Ceaser salad with grilled mahi mahi or ono, but often find myself eyeballing other plates as they come out of the kitchen. I haven't tried all of the dishes, but judging from the happy faces at the family style tables, it's all good!
