Various news media sources have reported interesting numbers related to the TARP funds devoted to loan modification and foreclosure prevention program.  The Obama administration pledged up to $50 billion to assist struggling homeowners, but the government has spent only a tiny fraction of that, thus far.Launched in early 2009, the Treasury Department reported recently TARP spending has put the total at $600 million through the month of October 2010.To obtain details of the spending, a request was filed for data via the Freedom of Information act.  This data demonstrates exactly how much money has gone to each servicer.Initially, there was hope … (22 comments)

sacramento real estate news: If You Can Dream It You Can Do It - 11/07/10 08:02 PM

(Slide Show has 2 slides only)

Since this is Monday, the traditional day of workweek beginnings, I'll post one of my favorite quotes by Zig Ziglar.  I am a fan of Zig, and remember during the early 1980s when I launched my real estate career, often reading his inspiring quotes.  The following Ziglar quote is one of my favorites, "What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."
I went through many life changes in the 1980s.  Sometimes it felt like I needed to hang onto a telephone pole, just to keep from … (41 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Are Banks Reneging on Loan Modifications - 11/07/10 10:27 AM
The Sacramento Bee is currently running a story, about homeowners who were provided trial mortgage modifications, only to have the lenders foreclose instead. The story showcases the plight of William and Esperanza Casco of Long Beach, California, who were managing to stay current on their mortgage.  However, when JPMorgan Chase & Company offered them reduced payments via a loan modification, they signed up.The Cascos claim they never missed a subsequent payment, and were horrified when the bank decided to foreclose on their modest home because the smaller payments weren't enough. The Cascos aren't alone in making claims like this one.  Lawsuits filed by … (6 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Planning While Navigating Possible Tax Changes in 2011 - 11/06/10 02:35 PM
There is news the last couple days that President Obama may consider working with the Republicans in Congress to extend the tax cuts to the wealthy as well as the middle class.  We can only hope with the plethora of tax changes set to ignite this coming year, that action will occur to soften their impact.According to an article posted by The Weakonomist the following list is a summary of some changes, which may impact you.  Many of these changes could be reversed if Congress acts to address many of these deductions, credits, and tax hikes.

sacramento real estate news: Leaves of Gold - 11/05/10 12:00 PM

(Slide Show had 7 Slides)
Today, an old friend and I went for a drive. I won't say how old this friendship is, but will tell you we went to school together a very longtime ago.
Heading east out of Sacramento on Highway 50, we ended up in the Apple Hill vicinity.  My friend recently had surgery, so we didn't get out of the car to visit the many farms, which are open with crafters, apples, and cider, this time of year.  However, we did manage an early lunch at Bavarian Hills.  This is a delightful place nestled in the center of Apple Hill.  … (34 comments)

sacramento real estate news: You Own Your Home – How Has The Mortgage Mess Affected You - 11/04/10 09:31 AM
This morning, I was reading an article presented by AARP.  It provided interesting statistics and projections by Rick Sharga, a senior vice president with RealtyTrac.  According to Sharga, the foreclosure inventory may very well reach into 2014 before it is cleared out and home prices start rising once again.  Bank repossessions continue to run at record highs.  100,000 homes were foreclosed upon in August alone.Seniors have been hard hit, as many of them abandoned the principles of past generations of Americans who paid off mortgages as they migrated toward retirement.  According to AARP, retirees today, are just as likely as younger … (41 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Along the Sacramento River Delta - 11/01/10 03:03 PM

(Slide show is 2 slides only)
On Saturday evening, while driving along the river road hugging the Sacramento River, I was on the way to Grand Island and its mansion, for the occasion of my grandson's wedding.  I became enchanted with by-gone memories of my youth.
When I was a kid, it was a Sunday afternoon tradition for Mom, Dad, and me, to take rides along the stretch of river, between Sacramento and Rio Vista.  We enjoyed the quiet away from town.
We would cross back and forth across the river, using bridges still standing today.  Occasionally we would drive the car onto one of … (34 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Keep Your Kids Safe on Halloween Night - 10/25/10 03:59 PM

It is hard for me to imagine, but 41 years ago this October, my family had just moved into a new home, a few days prior to close of escrow. Our real estate agent came unexpectedly to our home on Halloween night, just as my little boy (then aged 4) was dressed and ready to go out trick or treating.  While we were distracted with the agent, and were signing some last minute papers, the doorbell continued to ring as children in the neighborhood came to perform their ritualistic trick or treating. When it was all over and the agent had left, … (32 comments)

sacramento real estate news: Warm Harvest Scenes in Sloughhouse - 10/24/10 12:54 PM

(Slide Show has 10 images)
A few days back, I was on a hunt for really fresh produce for a family gathering on Saturday evening.  Normally, I would select really fresh vegetables and fruit at the Sunrise Boulevard Farmer's Market held on Saturday mornings.  However, I wanted to be up cooking, really early, and feared running to market the morning of the event, would cut time short.
About a half hour or so, after one drives east, but a tad south on Jackson Road (Highway 16) out of Sacramento, folks come upon the delightfully rural community of Sloughhouse.
The community is quiet and somewhat small, but enjoys a rich … (35 comments)
