granbury texas: Real Estate Legend, Shirley Hooks Passes - 01/16/24 10:53 AM
One of our long-time, local real estate brokers, Shirley Hooks recently passed. She forged the real estate community in our area for many decades. Not only was she a force in real estate, she was instrumental as a major philanthropist and community leader on many fronts.
Shirley, who was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, owned and operated the Century 21 office on our Square. They purchased the iconic building on N. Crockett Street and ran their real estate business from it for many years. Both Bill and Shirley made a lasting impact on our town and both are extremely … (11 comments)

granbury texas: An Exceptional Title Company Experience - 09/29/23 01:23 PM
Today I had the pleasure of closing on a home for some of my dear friends. It's always a little nerve-wracking to sell a friend's home as we all know the pitfalls when working with friends and family. In this particular case, I just had to write about the exceptional service we received from a new title company in town.
McKnight Title provided a start-to-finish service from the moment they opened the title until the closing today. Here are some specifics:
🏡 COMMUNICATION. The emails, texts, and phone calls we received throughout this transaction were far and above anything I have ever experienced. … (9 comments)

granbury texas: Granbury ISD Censures School Board Member - 08/25/23 07:33 AM
Last night in our tiny town of Granbury, Texas after an almost 5-hour Special-called meeting, the Trustees voted 5-2 in favor of censuring Karen Lowery for her unethical behavior and for going against school board policy and procedures. The board room was filled to capacity with many filling the entire foyer as well.
It is a sad day for any school district to have to take such measures against a fellow elected official. However, when one deems themselves above proper protocol and procedures, it becomes necessary. Here is the official statement from Granbury ISD.
An elected school board trustee violated the basic rule … (10 comments)

If you are ready to dive into building a new home, then you have found the right place with this series. I am currently building a new home with my husband and I am inviting you on this crazy journey. And, if you have ever built before, you understand that indeed, this is a journey.
It took us many years to finally find the right place to build our home. We needed a lot that was very wide in order to accommodate the home we wished to build. As land costs have climbed, developers are not building very wide lots because land … (4 comments)

granbury texas: The Devastation of Fire in Historic Granbury, Texas - 03/02/23 12:47 PM
Last night in historic Granbury, Texas, what we as business owners fear–fire, descended upon our town. In the wee hours last night, a fire began in the iconic building known as The Nutt House. This anchor structure was built by the Nutt brothers who donated the land for our Square.
The Nutt House has been a famous hotel and restaurant over the years. The newest owner has been putting in years of renovation and was only a few months from re-opening. This fire completely destroyed both floors of the building.
But, one thing we know about Granbury, is the resilient spirit of our … (11 comments)

granbury texas: February Challenge Part II - Life as a Professional - 02/26/22 04:29 PM
Part II of the February Challenge that Carol Williams put before us. Part I was about our personal lives and what has shaped us. In this post, we are to share the experiences in life that have impacted us in our professional lives.
As I look back on my professional life, it has been very exciting, varied, and never boring. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology, I began my professional career teaching high school science which I loved. Many people bemoan teaching yet, I found much satisfaction as a teacher.
My entrepreneurial career began in my early 30's when I built … (12 comments)

granbury texas: Successful Marketing of a Unique Property - 08/23/21 06:27 AM
Most properties today are flying off of the market at record speeds. Sometimes, however, we come across an opportunity to market a property that may pose a few challenges to a potential buyer.  This is when an innovative marketing strategy comes into play.
With the advent of home improvement shows, many people jumped on the bandwagon thinking a project was "do-able" only to find themselves overwhelmed, over-budget, and over IT! I recently received a call from a dear friend who found themselves in such a situation. The dreams of their country property to "fix-up" have them at an all-time stress level.
Upon entering … (7 comments)

granbury texas: Creatively Marketing a Commercial Warehouse - 07/17/19 09:57 PM
Creatively Marketing a Commercial Warehouse
Today I did something totally out of the typical commercial real estate box. I hosted a paint party for our real estate agent community at a warehouse I have for sale. My goal of course was in getting agents to the warehouse to put their eyes on the property.

So what did I do? Yup, I totally lured them in with a fun activity, some libations and some food. My good buddies over at Stonewall Title pitched in to help and guess what? It was a success!

Not only did we have a good turnout, we also had fun … (5 comments)

granbury texas: Do You Ever RETREAT? - 02/01/18 08:51 AM
Do You Ever RETREAT?
Yesterday our entire office took what we call a One-Day Retreat. We recently opened our doors back in May of 2017 so this January was the first time we me for one day and reflect, re-purpose, and relax. Yes, we cleared our busy schedules and came together to retreat.

We spent the day at a cool, historic home that is right in town. We weren't far from the office yet we were out of the office. It truly made for a change-of-pace for us all.

What were our objectives?
To take a few hours to focus on personal growth. (Growth … (8 comments)

granbury texas: Today I Went Back to High School! - 03/09/17 09:46 AM
Today I Went Back to High School!
Having returned to my hometown after almost 40 years, a lot has changed while much has stayed the same. Today, I was able to tour Granbury High School with the Granbury ISD Education Foundation. What I discovered was truly amazing.

When I attended Granbury High School in the 70's, the school was brand new and was state of the art for that time. Well let me tell you that today, this school district has exceeded my expectations. The district has been forward thinking and innovative.
The relatively new Career and Technology wing is impressive. From Court Room … (4 comments)

granbury texas: Embracing CHANGE ~ Life Depends on it! - 02/20/17 12:00 PM
Embracing CHANGE ~ Life Depends on it!
Recently I needed to make some major changes regarding the direction of my business. As I carefully made decisions, conclusions and course of my business, it was very clear that the direction I needed to go. Therefore, change is happening.

As a former Biology teacher, one of the very first lessons I taught my students was that in order for something to be considered "living" it must be constantly changing.  For instance, if our cells were not in a constant state of change, they would actually die. Therefore, change is essential to life!

So many people moan … (14 comments)
