blogging: What make a blog or newsletter a MUST read? - 04/25/14 01:05 PM
What make a blog or newsletter a MUST read?
Earlier this week, I noticed that I haven’t seen any updates in my email box from my favorite blog – Photography for Real Estate.   I went to the website and saw that I missed several posts.  It turns out that somehow, my spam filter decided that they were spam.  I fixed the problem.  This incident got me to thinking about what I liked so much about that particular blog that I actually noticed that I wasn’t getting it.  I also considered the other newsletters and blogs that I almost always take … (21 comments)

blogging: Reader Poll: How Many Pictures are Too Many? - 09/06/13 02:52 AM
From a reader's perspective, how many pictures are too many pictures for a blog post?  Does size matter?  Size of the pictures that is.....

I primarily blog about the "Colorado experience."
Colorado is such a beautiful state and there are so many things to do, that it is hard not to get some good pictures.

For example, last weekend after the first round of cuts, I downloaded over 500 pictures.    Pictures of a horse show, of downtown Colorado Springs, the Colorado Balloon Classic and of an Arabian horse ranch.   500 pictures are way too many.

blogging: What should I write about? A look in the AR archives - 03/14/13 04:24 PM
What should I write about?   To help you answer this question, I explored the archives of some of Active Rain’s most popular and active bloggers. I think my statistically non-random, random sample included two people that were not Active Rain Ambassadors. One has over a million points. The other has over 500,000 points and is arranging a meet up in Colorado. They know what they are doing. (I've got many others that I would like to add to my sample, but I ran out of time. Maybe there will be a part II?)

What should I write about?

blogging: How do you get the nice, large, colored text in your posts? - 02/28/13 11:50 AM
It is time to set my pride aside.  I need help.  I've been a member of AR since 2008.  I still can not figure out how to get nice, colorful text  with a decent sized font to show up in my posts.
To me...the formatted text seems to be the difference between an decent looking post and a professional looking that makes you say, "Wow."   I want my posts to look professional.
Some people are able to use different fonts/sizes and different colors.  But not me.....I can't figure it out after years of trying.
I've tried cut and paste.....that seems to create more … (17 comments)

blogging: Words of wisdom from a New York Times Best Selling Author - 04/03/11 02:47 AM
Can Jerry B Jenkins, a New York Times' bestselling author and former sports writer have any words of wisdom that would help Active Rain bloggers?  If you are attempting to write quality blogs that people want to read, the answer is yes.
Yesterday, Saturday April 2, 2011, the Pikes Peak Library District hosted the 5th Annual Mountain of Authors event.  The event included an opportunity to meet a number of Colorado Springs area authors.    The keynote speaker was Jerry B. Jenkins, the co-author of the Left Behind series.  I really liked that series.  I never would have dreamed that this … (13 comments)

blogging: Your Blog Post: A One Night Stand or Marriage Material? - 02/22/11 04:12 PM
Does your blog post represent a one night stand or marriage material?  In other words, does it have long term potential?   Over the last couple of days, we've considered the importance of catchy titles and personality.  Thank you to everyone that has given me wonderful feedback and food for thought.
Ultimately, we have to decide, BEFORE we dress up our blog post and send it out to into the world, what our goal ultimately is.  Do we want our dear little post to shine in the spotlight for the one day?  Or do we want our post to have some long … (31 comments)

blogging: Times have changed - 01/21/08 04:26 PM
Just recently, I was looking through a real estate sales and marketing book that was written in 1994.  I was amazed at what was NOT in that book.  Pagers were the big thing back then.   More and more Realtors were starting to use lap tops.  Discussions about computer programs were predominately about contact management software.  The book talked about instant cameras....I felt like I was looking at a history book.  Can you remember back then?
How did we survive without email?  Without cell phones?  Really, how did we survive without cell phones?  It seems like I bought my first cell phone in 1997 or 1998.
Remember when you were … (9 comments)

blogging: Why is AR so Addictive? - 12/01/07 02:51 AM
Hopefully, if I can figure this question out, it would help me better serve my readers and to better explain the concept of blogging to those that are not familiar with it.   I've been trying to explain the concept a lot this week as a precurser to sending out invitations to join.
I normally sleep good at night.  Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and found myself thinking about AR.  I wanted to log on and get my fix.
In part, I felt bad about not responding to the people that commented yesterday before went to bed, but I didn't get home … (8 comments)
