sc: Why Do So Many People Choose to Relocate to Beaufort? - 08/17/14 01:25 PM
I get asked that frequently. I can't put my finger on why so many folks choose to relocate or retire to Beaufort, I just know people want to be here. Beaufort is a target destination of folks from Maine to Tennessee and North Carolina to Connecticut.
Well, maybe I can  put my finger on it. Besides being, pound for pound, one of the most historic towns in America, the weather is temperate, the waterways are endless, the beaches are nearby, and the people are just plain nice.
From a tax situation, most of those relocating to Beaufort will tell you their taxes went down … (0 comments)

sc: Things Heating Up In The $150k And Under Price Range - 02/09/14 12:34 AM
Here we are in early February, the tail end of the winter market, and we are seeing many buyers have to scramble to get offers in before the home of their choice is bought out from under them.
Yes, urgency has returned to the Beaufort, SC real-estate market, as more buyers are competing for a seemingly dwindling supply of homes in the $100,000 to $150,000 price range.
An old axom of real estate has been that "The home you looked at and liked today is probably the home someone else looked at and liked yesterday."
It seems like it was just recently that the … (2 comments)

sc: $400 to $500 Well-Spent - 02/05/14 11:09 AM
New homes are covered by the builder's warranty, which is very comprehensive and covers the structure from top to bottom.   However, if you are purchasing a pre-owned home, we recommend buying a home warranty plan, offered by the likes of Old Republic, American Home Shield or 2-10.   Starting at about $400 a year, new homeowners can have limited protection for all sorts of problems which could arise at your home, from electrical and plumbing issues to appliance breakdowns. And coverage does not have to coincide with the purchase.   Home sellers can utilize the plans during the listing period. … (0 comments)

sc: 2013 Beaufort Water Festival - 07/21/13 02:32 AM
One of the things that makes Beaufort, SC special is the Water Festival. Here is a scene from the opening ceremonies, last Friday, July 19.
Opening ceremonies are always quite a site -- hundres of boats on the Beaufort River, and thousands of revelers at the downtown Beaufort Waterfront Park, where most of the events take place.
If you are within a driveable distance from Beaufort, I would highly recommend coming down for a few hours. The festival continues through next Saturday, July 27. It is truly a wonderful festival in a waterfront community.

sc: Beaufort's Lady's Island Community - 01/22/13 08:56 AM
Lady’s Island is nestled between Historic Downtown Beaufort and the Atlantic Ocean. Lady's Island is also one of Beaufort's premier residential areas. From the waterfront communities of Distant Island, Cane Island, Cat Island and Newpoint, to the wonderful and more affordably priced communities of Royal Pines, Christine Place, and Telfair, Lady's Island has something for everyone. Lady's Island is separated from downtown Beaufort by the Woods Memorial Bridge, more commonly referred to as  old "swing bridge."  In recent years, Lady’s Island has become a very popular option for builders and developers, because of this proximity to downtown Beaufort, and seemingly endless … (2 comments)

sc: The Case for Beaufort, SC - 01/18/13 01:04 AM
A few weeks after arriving in Beaufort, SC, from Atlanta, in the spring of 1996, I noticed something -- It never seemed to rain in Beaufort. Indeed, for weeks on end, it seemed I rarely noticed a cloud. To be sure, it rains in Beaufort, SC. In fact, one of my favorite things in the whole world is an early evening thunderstorm.
Suffice it to say, my first impressions of Beaufort were terrific. Almost seventeen years later, life keeps getting better in Beaufort. Rarely do you go out and not encounter a familiar face. And even the not-so-familiar faces tend to … (0 comments)

sc: For Home Buyers In Need of Credit Improvement - 10/17/12 02:49 AM
An agent in our office recently met with a prospective buyer, who had some credit issues. The agent is still new, so she emailed the other agents in the office to get advice on how to help a buyer build up their credit.
As always seems to be the case in our wonderful office, one of the agents, who shall remain nameless, provided some excellent advice. I thought I would share, and maybe it will be helpful to prospective home buyers, or their Realtors, down the road.
Following is the response --
Many times I have come into similar situations, regarding … (4 comments)

sc: Throwing Around MIS-Information Which Could Unecessarily Kill A Real Estate Transaction - 03/26/12 03:28 AM
Have you ever had an experience with a know-it-all home inspector who doesn't know nearly as much as he believes? Of course you have. We all have. As in any walk of life, or any profession, there are those who think they know everything.
Buyers and sellers need to understand, however, that home inspectors are not infallible, even if they sound like they do.
Twice now, in the past few months, I have seen home inspectors toss out wildly inaccurate information in regards to repairs to a couple of homes in Beaufort, SC. For the sake of disclosure, neither of these … (2 comments)
