1) I'm a surfing Canadian. No, not web surfing - actual wave surfing in the ocean! I moved to Southern California from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada (a.k.a. Winterpeg) in 1998 and tried to surf that same year. I fell in love with it from the first second. I don't get out nearly as much as I would like, but I try and have fun. And no, that's not me in the corner! |
2) I have an IT background. I have a Computer Science degree from the University of Manitoba. I love computers and technology, but corporate America sullied that love. I definitely use my technical knowledge to my advantage in my work |
3) I will never work a job I hate. Life is too short. Work takes up a lot of time in my day. Why not enjoy that time? Simple concept, yet most people feel that they HAVE to continue in a job they hate. I've made a choice to do what I love. I love real estate. I love travel. I love surf. Put those all together and Costa Rica real estate is an obvious choice. |
4) I would love to live abroad. I would move to Costa Rica in a second - but my husband isn't so quick to do so! I've already moved from Canada to the US, all within a 4 months time period. Sounds easy, but there's a lot that goes behind it - customs paperwork, work permits, bringing my car to California (easier said than done). That experience taught me that something that seems so big is really achievable. And, I moved here all by myself. I'm very proud of myself for that. |
5) I prefer experiences over gifts. Do you remember what you got for Christmas last year? I don't! But, I remember the time that my sister and I took our first trip together to California years ago. That was extremely memorable and holds a special place in my heart. Experiences can leave a lifelong impression, whereas material possessions are fleeting. |
Now I'd like to meme the following 3 people:
|
Tiffany,
I just added your meme to my alphabetical meme list. Check it out when you get a chance.
Lucky :)
Tiffany, what a wonderful and positive post. I love your spirit and your go for it attitude. Welcome, and thanks for sharing.
Tiffany - forgive me if I do not know where or how to respond to your "meme" inquiry - so I will attempt to do so here.
I am originally from Minneapolis, although I have lived in Florida for most of adult life. I have traveled to 47 of the states (lacking Alaska, Maine and Vermont). I am not a fan of the Florida summers or the hurricanes - but, on balance, I have enjoyed being here in Central Florida.
I have a degree in Political Science and a law degree, although I no longer practice law directly. I found that I love the law but I am not very fond of lawyers. My personal blog at www.cadfael.net continues to address legal issues, the Supreme Court, various political questions and more important topics like my predictions for the content of the next and last Harry Potter book due out in a few weeks (don't expect any AR posts or comments that day - I will be reading).
Technology fascinates me. I have worked in technical fields (telephone and computers), but tend toward business applications of computer technology. I have had a personal computer (or any number of them actually) since 1980 which means I predate IBM's entry into the PC market and MS-DOS. (does the word dinosaur come to mind?). I am permanently attached to the internet. I don't even remember where I went for information BG (before google).
My reading these days tends toward the technical or political. I enjoy audio books which make windshield time in the car almost worthwhile. I tend to be satisfied so long as I can learn a new technology or software application or have a rational conversation with someone every day (not as easy as it sounds). I constantly seek input on some level.
I have friends who have done business in Costa Rica (ferns and flowers) but I have not taken the opportunity to travel there as yet. I would enjoy the trip - also looking forward to traveling to British Columbia. My mini-vacations get me as far as the Ocean Reef Club in the Florida Keys. I used to be in the real estate business there. Sub-tropical island paradise with the Miami airport 1 hour away by car if the weather turns bad.
I completely agree with your numbered paragraph 5, as I believe people are more important than things - and certainly more memorable.
I am currently licensed in real estate, mortgages, life insurance and securities. I have been a pilot and a scuba diver (talk about ups and downs). I should probably give some thought to what I want to do when I grow up one of these days - but it has been so interesting along the way, I hadn't given it a thought.
Thanks Tiffany for the inquiry. It has been fun to meet some really great professional people on AR. I had the pleasure of meeting Matt and Caleb from AR Corporate and some of the Florida members at the recent birthday bash. Perhaps we will find a way to get together live with the California group and others in the near future.
Take care
