When my husband rescued Hiway on the Interstate I-15 on ramp in Washington City, Utah, I had no idea the impact this kitten would have on our family! Two summers ago, my husband was returning to work from making a stop at The Home Depot, he noticed a blur of movement off the side of the road. Upon closer inspection, it was a tiny, tiny gray-striped kitten, emaciated beyond belief! He looked around for others but to no avail, came back to the truck, put the kitten on his shoulder, where she stayed and drove to the nearest convenience store for water and canned cat food.
He called me shortly after that with the news and I became excited to meet this little animal that could survive 100+ outside temperatures with no food, water or family support! She fit in my hand and her head was the biggest part about her. She slept on my husband's neck for months until she began to grow and finally settled in the curve of our legs, always touching!
Hiway makes noises as she races past that sounds similar to motors...watches Nascar and the most remarkable thing she does is play Fetch! I had surgery and was home for 8 weeks recovery. She was a kitten and wanted me to play with her, I was very limited with my ability to move so I began kissing and throwing her favorite stuffed animals across the room. She began to bring them back...and we would play until she was exhausted and then we'd nap!
Hiway has enriched our lives beyond any measure and this Kodak Moment makes me smile and reminds me how fragile life can be when there is no one to help. This photo was taken several weeks after she was well fed and became part of our family, she seems to be saying thank you but I say no, thank you Hiway, you are one amazing cat!
