Laramie, Wyoming. We have some culture, really - we do! The challenge of this little just for fun series . . .

Can You Find It ?!

If you haven't been to - or live in - Laramie, Wyoming, it won't be easy to do the "Can You Find It?" part of this challenge. However, I hope that far away visitors can still enjoy the pictures!

Marble Sculpture

Now I have always liked this statue, but if I recall correctly there were vocal few residents who did not welcome its arrival back in 1983. I think vandals even cut off one or more of the heads during a summer shortly after it was installed. Fortunately, they must have left them (it) behind and someone did a VERY good job of reattaching it(them?). Since then, any controversy over this overtly non-traditional not-western statue has faded. Thank goodness!

I should have been thinking about him when you posted your photo of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial. In fact, I am going back to that post to add a comment about how that sculpture is related to my interest in Mexico.

Brenda--Why in the world would anyone object? Looks like a mother, father and child......Someone would have to be really dumb to look at any piece of art as being literally what you are seeing. Imagination must enter into it!!

Hi Brenda, What does the UW stand for? Public art is always vulnerable. Glad the dislike has passed and the piece/family has survived.

Hi Gloria, How funny you would ask! It is so second nature to us here that I wouldn't have imagined someone might not know. UW stands for the University of Wyoming, the only 4 year state funded college in Wyoming. So I guess that partially gives away where this one is!
