I think it's about time I wrote about an area restaurant that my husband Jon and I enjoy. It is Lumberjacks Restaurant "Where the Big Boys Eat." There are 6 locations from Redding to Sacramento and as far east as Grass Valley California.
The one we usually go to is at 5820 Madison Avenue (at Manzanita), Sacramento CA 95841. You can identify it by the huge (maybe 20 feet tall) statue of a lumberjack reminiscent of Paul Bunyan. The theme continues inside, with a log cabin look, photos of old loggers, huge saws, and the TVs playing videos of lumberjack competitions.
You will be greeted and served by friendly and helpful hostess and servers, and you will notice right away that there seem to be regulars known to the staff, who come back again and again for the great food at low prices. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, have some healthy options, and senior and kids menus.
Portions are hearty and honor their slogan. Even their senior meals are large. Lunches are great, with a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, burgers, and hot meals. They call their sandwiches "2 hand" sandwiches, and they are served with your choice of fries, fruit, potato salad, cole slaw or cottage cheese. I've had several sandwiches and enjoyed them all. They run about $6.99-8.99.
Dinners are served on platters. If you think you will have room, there is also a small but good salad bar. Dinners run about $11.99-14.99. We recently had dinner with salad bar, followed by prime rib for me and steak and popcorn shrimp for Jon, and it was delicious. I wound up having a sandwich from my leftovers for lunch the next day.
I apologize for the quality of my photos, which were taken in funky lighting with my cell phone, but I hope you can see why we like to eat here!
