Do I Think You're an Idiot?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Personal SEO - Website SEO and Real Estate Marketing

Being in the real estate industry per se for over a decade I have come across my fair share of idiots... I mean I was really amazed some folks actually could get their license... (Wonder how many times they took the test?) But that's in any business or industry, right?SEO Idiots

ActiveRain is for Real Estate. We all know this by now but they do allow other industries membership. Mortgage, Appraisers, Inspectors and Stagers... and lucky for me, SEO professionals. I originally joined AR to benefit my clients and quickly realized how fun it was to blog about my own personal business.  So I have done both since November and am loving it!

BUT - there are some on here that think we don't belong. I read a post the other day stating that SEO people on ActiveRain are nothing more than sharks preying on agents considering them idiots. This post almost implied that those on AR seem to know it all and we don't need anyone coming in telling us otherwise.

Well, YOU might. If you have been on ActiveRain for several years you should be pretty savvy to many SEO tactics and have learned what's worked and what hasn't. That's obvious. But even if you just post listings you may not be aware of all the details related to SEO.

Do I know everything there is to know about Real Estate?

Absolutely not! I leave that to you - the expert!  But I also DO know a little about real estate having sold it for a few years. It was not my thing so I did more SEO and found I loved this! Do I think having that real estate background makes me a better writer when it comes to writing  for real estate sites? Of course! Why wouldn't it? If I had come from any other industry I could certainly write with more authority about  that than anything.....  DUH! Why is it ok for Real Estate pros on here to give advice about SEO but when former real estate pros turned SEO pros give SEO advice it's not taken as serious? Does it mean I don't know SEO? Does it mean I think you're an idiot cause you don't know what SEO stands for? (Search Engine Optimization) ;-) Of course not! I don't know all the details of a short sale but it doesn't mean  I believe YOU think I'm an idiot because of it.

We all know our industry. PERIOD.

I'm here to promote my existing clients, let my personal blogging juices flow and if I can help others on their SEO journey, so be it. I love it! Or I wouldn't have become an Ambassador. There are a lot of people on here that know a lot about SEO. This is a personal network and it helps to know the person you are dealing with - for any industry.

Do I think you're an idiot when you just started in the SEO world? Absolutely not! I want to provide information for those just starting and those that may want to learn more in-depth techniques in the SEO world. This is my business. Real Estate is yours. I don't expect you to know everything about two different industries.

And I don't think you're an idiot!

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

LOL @John & Kasey!  I don't think that members dis those of you who share so very much here.  It's the ones that are ONLY here to market their ware and who CONSTANTLY promote themselves.  I know, we REALTORS are forever promoting our listings but, we're not really trying to get other members here to spend their money--incessantly!  Like Connie said, we just ignore them!

Well, Tammy, I personally think that the more any of us can read from different authors and bloggers - the better we all will get with SEO - I know I need a LOT help!  So......keep writing and I'll keep reading...

Your real estate writer

I didn't see the post you were referring to, but I imagine that as a copywriter, I was probably included as one who "doesn't belong." Oh well. I'm here and I'm enjoying making new friends as well as meeting new clients. I'm also learning plenty that I can use to help those clients.

It always bothers me when someone writes me and sounds embarrassed because they need a writer - it's as if they feel that they should be able to write their own marketing copy because they know their business inside out.

The truth is, everyone should do what they do best - and just because you know your business doesn't mean you know how to write marketing copy.

Thanks for your attitude - and the information you share.

Tammy, I sing praises of you and your work everyday! When someone compliments me on my web site, I tell them who did it and who has given me the direction to keep it going. Thank you again. Without AR I would never have found you.

In more general terms, I use AR as a resource for ALL things Real Estate. The variety of people, products and methods provide me with an outstanding educational cafeteria of ideas and truths.

If anyone in the community can't understand the concept of sharing ideas and practices, they need to ask themselves why they are in the community.

Thank you all for the time you give sharing with those of us eager to keep learning.

Hey Debe, Thanks for your comment. I appreciate your imput and perspective on it.  It's good to know I don't come across this way at least to most :) Always appreciate your smiling face on my blog!

Thanks Louise!  I WILL!!! I hope I can give you great information to help in your online exposure. :)

Marte  You're right about that. I really appreciate your perspective and glad you commented. I would hope that most agents would be able to "TELL" me about a short sale, not neccessarily write well about it. HA! Thanks

MIKE! THere you are? Been looking for you? WHere have you been? Thanks so much for stopping by. I really appreciate your imput and consideration. AR is a great resource for so many things real estate related and unless you can obviously tell it's spam we should be open to new ideas. Thanks so much! :)

Sadly too many times people (and even I've done it), make a blanket statement that throws everyone in the pool together.

I never worry about my fellow agents...we are all different.  Each one of us brings a different perspective.

On the other hand I have worked with agents that I wondered like you - how many times they had to take the test or why or earth they ever picked a career in real estate.

I enjoyed reading your blog.  Joy

Hi Tammy:

I already know there is so much about SEO that I don't know.  You come across as informative and not salesy to me and I appreciate any info people are willing to share on SEO.  Thanks for posting.

I believe that the Stagers and the Inspectors and the SEO experts and all of the related fields that are on AR are SUCH a benefit to the whole.  Fact of the matter is, this would not be nearly as good of a community without the diversity, but all interrelated.  Makes me want to take someone out behind the woodshed and beat some sense into them.  Thanks for all you do.  You are truly a gem.

GeneIsn't that what we ALL are trying to do? If there was a blog for buyers and sellers to connect don't you think real estate agent would jump on that as well? We all are trying to do our best, support our families and be good people..... at least most of us.. Thanks so much!:)

Thanks so much Jennifer. Just knowing I came on here to promote my clients instead of gain them should be enough. HA! I didn't even realize my expertise would be of help.. DUH>>> HELLO?  Guesss I am the idiot! HA:)

Thanks for the support Mike! Appreciate the comment. Let me know if I can ever help ya out  :)

I think it's fine to have other professions on here, especially those that support and service the real estate industry.  I don't have a desire for your services right now, but I may one day, and the fact that you're on the Rain puts you higher in my book.  So, ignore the idiots.

By the way, a lady in my old office took the real estate test 9 (yes, NINE) times before passing!  Unbelievable.  She may not be real smart, but she sure is dedicated...I have to give her that.
