Water run-off takes the line of least resistance on a dirt road. I can say that without a shadow of a doubt steep slope erosion controlas I regard our rain-soaked slope today.  We notice that our road needs a wee bit of old-fashioned TLC. Time to remove obstacles - fallen branches and tumbled debris. Time to fill in the mighty ruts. Time to control the flow of water that can affect those downstream.

Mountain Road Planning and Development- I readily will admit that some of this repair work could have been avoided with the site design and construction expertise of David Tuch. "Even the best laid plans can go awry without proper site controls, documentation, and construction oversight, " David  tells us. His company,  Equinox Environmental    furnishes necessary construction details and documents such as sediment and erosion control plans, grading plans, construction details and specifications.

Enter local hero, Ray. (see photo) Ray's hard at work on this June morning with mountain mists and a muddy mess as his companions.

Hi janeAnne~ When I lived in Arizona we faced many planning and development issues including fissures in one outlying community that swallowed up horses during the building boom! I'm glad Ray is on the job to solve the run off problem for your neighborhood!

janeAnne - Water run off can be a huge problem with development. And yes, the proper infrastructure and design from the "get go" is critical. However, it looks like you've all got in under control in your neighborhood. (By the way, love the photo of Ray with his Mountain Mists and Muddy Mess companions.)

janeAnne - with the weater we've been having in western NC these past couple of weeks, the roads need help for sure!  With downed trees, limbs and debris strewn everywhere, it's a wonder the water can flow at all.

We are fortunate to be on a paved road, but we have a creek that runs UNDER our driveway.  Occassionally the culvert gets clogged with leaves and debris and the creek runs over OVER the driveway.  Not safe!  Bill ends up knee deep in cold muddy water cleaning it out.

janeAnne,

Water run-off is a huge problem that can be avoided if the states and local government listened to the experts, such as David Tuch. I can understand why you consider him a local hero. He'd be mine too!

What a great story!

Profit from my two decades of experience

janeAnne, I'm glad too see more individuals becoming more proactive and actually doing things to prevent runoff and erosion. Best.
