Whether you’re getting together with family or friends this holiday weekend, chances are you’ll be spending sometime around the grill talking about the latest news.  As your trusted Real Estate Virtual Assistants, we’re here to help you in any way we can, so we thought we’d provide you with a few hot topics surrounding social media that will help generate conversations and make you appear in-the-know!

Now, before we give you these hot topics, we first want to make sure that you’re planning on really relaxing over the 4th of July weekend.  As real estate agents, you’re running non-stop and we hope you’re able to set work aside, take a deep breath and just sit back and enjoy this highlight of the summer.

Feel free to let us know if you need us to take anything off your plate (and no, we’re not after your apple pie), we just thrive on taking those daily tasks that real estate agents don’t have time to do, and making their lives a whole lot easier by taking care of them!  In fact, take off the whole week, send us your listings or marketing tasks and when you get back from your week of relaxation; you’ll find everything’s been taken care of and you can focus on what only you can do!

Okay, now back to those hot topics that will prove to be great conversation starters!  Here are our top five!

1. President Obama is Holding a Town Meeting over Twitter- Yep, on July 6, the President has announced that he’ll be answering questions that have been submitted over Twitter on a live webcast.  Questions can be submitted via the askobama.twitter.com website or by using the hashtag #AskObama.  Twitter has created an entire website for this event, and it’s sure to be the best attended town meeting ever!

2. June 30 has been named Social Media Day- This will probably provide a lively debate among your friends and family.  Discussion questions could include:

- Why?

- Is Social Media taking over our lives or simply becoming the new normal?

- How much time do you spend using Social Media sites each day?

- What’s next for Social Media?

These questions will get different responses, probably from different age groups, and will give you insight into how your friends and family feel about these sites.

3. Planking- Now, this one is more humorous than anything.  “Planking” is the latest craze and is simply laying face down in random locations for a photo op. Sound crazy?  It is!  From CNN to BCC News and Twitter, media press and photos of this are appearing all over!  Google "planking" with family and friends to see the craze.  It’s sure to spark some laughter and conversation!

4. Google is Getting Even More Social- Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools have added new tools for tracking the impact of tweets, likes, +1s & more on your website’s traffic.  Even more useful is Google’s new Social Plugin Tracking tool for Google Analytics. The tool compares the impact of different types of social actions on your website. It not only tracks +1s, but it also tracks Twitter tweets, Facebook Likes, Facebook Sends and other social actions.  Tracking these previously un-calculable social media sites is becoming much more tangible!

5. Social Media Has Changed Lives- Recently Mashable.com and CNN iReport conducted a survey asking people how Social Media has changed their lives.  Answers ranged from finding a job, finding love, getting to know new people, getting more involved with the environment and much more.  You can view all of the responses on CNN’s iReport website.  This conversation starter is a great one to discover if any of your family or friends lives have been drastically impacted through Social Media!

We hope these topics help spark interesting conversations around the grill this 4th of July!  We’re all well aware that social media is becoming more and more a part of our lives, and it's interesting to see where it's headed!

As Real Estate agents, you’re seeing the benefits of social media in regards to your marketing efforts and helping to generate leads.  And, as Real Estate Virtual Assistants, we want to help you make sure you’re using these sites to their fullest potential!

We’d love to help handle any of your social media so you can free up your time!  Feel free to contact us today to see how we can help take your social media to the next level!   Have insights into how social media has changed your life?  We’d enjoy hearing your feedback!
