Brenda- Your post is spot on about how to get a featured post- however only one item on your list is geared towards consumers - to get customers. Again, like you said, it depends on why you are here on ActiveRain.
For members that are here to connect and make friends with AR members and want featured posts to do that- that if fine- but then don't complain that you don't get any listings from your AR blog.
Newbies: If you want to pay for your rainmaker account every month and all you do is network with agents here by writing content geared towards agents that is a pretty expensive way to network and unless you have already dominated on the search engines for your keywords to get clients- then perhaps that is not the highest and best use of your money.
Last point- all members should make it a goal to post comments and suggest great hyper local content posts, nice listing presentations ( not cut and paste from mls) with lots of nice photos, short sale articles and real estate industry articles that will help the sellers want to call you to list their home. This way more of these type of posts will get featured and more exposure to the consumer market as they are on a high rank page- AR home page is a PR5 page. ( So is Lenn's BTW). Katerina
Hi Stephanie-Don't give up :)! You know you are writing great stuff if they are reblogging it :)!
Hi Kim-Lots of information here in the Rain, for sure :)!
Hi Katerina-I completely agree. As you know, many consumer type posts don't get featured as folks pass them on by or give short comments. It all depends on what they want to do here for sure :)!
Hi Kathy-I am glad you think so :)!
Great tips, Brenda. By following your suggestions, a blogger might even generate some new leads and more commission dollars - and that's far more important than a gold star!
Hi Margaret-I gotta say...a pay day is much better than a star for sure :)!
I'm going to be candid here. Being featured is nice but when I am featured (and I've had quite a few featured posts) I didn't write the article TO be featured. I wrote what I wrote. People suggeste it. Those that write just for the feature might be missing the point.
I think you forgot one way...just write a post about a contest...send it to AR and you'll get featured..works evey time...haha. I don't think I've ever written one and I've been here since the inception back in 2006.
Hi Carla-No doubt...it depends on what you are here to do. With this being such a hot button on AR lately, I thought I would have a little fun with it and lighten up the mood. Features are fun, but they probably shouldn't be the focus of your blog IMO.
Hi Erica-Amen! and I like Cake :)!
Hi Neal-No doubt, lol :)! No really, those get featured so everyone will know about em...that's a little too much work I think for a featured post )! Coming up with a contest, then having to judge the darn thing is hard work!
Thank you all for stopping by today!
Brenda,
I understand the value of getting a featured post, but unlike most I barely care about getting featured. I wouldn't mind if I received another one, but in my grand marketing strategy features don't matter. Great blog by the way, and congrats on your feature! :)
Nicely done Brenda! Thanks for the many tips and suggestions and congrats on the feature!
@Garrigus Real Estate-I agree, in the grand scheme of marketing, features should probably not be numero uno on our list. They usually don't get us clients. They do get us noticed here in Active Rain though :). Thanks for the congrats!
Hi Lisa-Thank you so much :)! Just trying to do my part to help, lol!
Each of those members you highlight are so unique in their own right they are very hard to emulate. Congrats on your feature, Brenda. A great example of just putting it out there with heart and getting featured.
Hi Jane-The bloggeers I highlighted are pretty cool, aren't they? I probably should have added a few more. They each have their own unique way of spreading their message here in the Rain, but they are great examples to folllow on getting a feature or two :)! Thank you for stopping by!
I can tell you from first-hand experience that none of those are sure fire methods.
Interestingly for a "broken" system, there are currently FOUR individuals on the feature board collecting their first Gold Star. Perhaps the Suggest button does it's job when used :)
Hi Russel-Nothing is sure fire for sure. As you see in my bottom paragraph, I state, even if you don't get a feature from my guide....etc.... I didn't write this to be a sure fire way to get features, but one has got to admit, if you argue about features and points, it might get up there on the feature board, lol :)!
Hi BLiz-Good to see some folks getting their first gold star! I hope they don't pass out from all of the comments...as Alan May is likely to say..."there fingers will start to bleed" :)!
Hello Brenda and I remember reading some of your post when it first came out but I must have got side tracked by something ... When I saw it I thought it might possibly be featured, and it was by The Gods and also by VB at one of my favorite groups at AR ...
Featured at one of my favorite groups at AR ...
VB ;o)
Thank you so much for the tips. I am working hard to get another post featured. After my first featured post I was excited for days. It felt so good to get all the attention.
