USS Hornet docked at Alameda, CAThings to do in Alameda:  The USS Hornet will honor past and present veterans on Monday, May 28, at 1:00 pm with a wreath ceremony and parade on the Hornet at  707 West Hornet Avenue, Pier 3 in Alameda.

Things to do in Alameda:  Memorial Day event to honor fallen veterans at the Alameda Veterans Memorial Park, May 28, at 11:00 am.  Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 400 is  hosting the event at which Rear Admiral Joseph Castillo, Commander of the 11th Coast Guard District, May Marie Gilmore will speak.  The Alameda All-City Band will perform.

Things to do in Alameda:  Memorial Day Open house at Crab Cove from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Come by for activities for the family including beach exploration, pond walk, fish feeding and snake meet and greet and nature crafts  Crab Cove is located at 1252 McKay Avenue, Alameda.  For more information, please call 510-544-3187.

Things to do in Alameda:  The Alameda’s Farmer’s Market is open to the public every Saturday and Tuesday morning from 9am to 1pm, rain or shine.  Don’t miss the opportunity to shop for delectable fruits and vegetables.  The market is at Webster Street and Haight Avenue

Mark your calendars for these great events:  

Alameda Museum Lecture Series on May 31 will feature Inge Schaefer Horton speaking about East Bay Women Architects.  The free program will begin at 7:00 pm at the Alameda Museum at 2324 Alameda Avenue.

The 45th Sand Castle and Sculpture contest, will take place on June 9th at Robert Crown Memorial Beach. the event is sponsored by Bay View  Women’s Club, East Bay Regional Park District and the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department. Registration begins at 9 am.  Judging will take place at Noon.  

Wiggle, Waggle, Walk, a dog walk fundraiser for Friends of the Animal Shelter will take place on June 3 from noon to 3:00 pm.  Registration at Wind River Campus, 500 Wind River Way.  Registration fee is $25.00 per dog.  For more information please call 510-337-8565.

Alameda Sand Castle Contest official website photoAlameda South Shore Center and Off the Grid will sponsor a food truck event on June 2, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the South Shore Center parking lot near Petco.  Eight to ten trucks will including CupKates, Brass Knuckle, Fivetenburge, Curry Up Now,  Hapa SF, Mayo & Mustard, Dosa Repulic, Senor Sisig, LIBA Falafel, Pacific Puffs, Nick’s Wheely  Good Breakfast, Suzie Q’s, and Seoul on Wheels.  Yum Yum!
