How I know Bill Gassett is right about Google Plus

Did you read yesterday's post by Bill Gassett, Not Using Google+? - Why Your Real Estate Competition Will Crush You? I know you probably did. It has nearly 90 comments and over 2700 facebook likes. The question is, did you listen to him?

A few weeks ago, I read his post, If you Are Not On Google+ You Should Be. I saw that he had his Google Plus profile linked to his AR account, so I added him to a circle. Since then I've been +1ing and interacting with him along with several other AR members. It is absolutely amazing what I've been learning to help me with my business.

I even shared a link that was highlighted in a link from someone else that writes for SEOmoz and ended up with the author himself commenting and giving us advice! No doubt if things like this continue happening, it will mean a lot for my authorship ranking, ironically what the article I shared was about in the first place.

Still, if you aren't listening to Bill, then maybe what I have to show you next will make you pay attention....

google plus search results

That's right, my SERP actually pulled my GOOGLE STATUS UPDATE, not the actual post, but the status update! Yes. This was in my personalized results, but most people don't turn this feature off when they are searching for things and as we link, connect and create a social web, these types of things will become more and more important.

So, in addition to trying to get your 10 daily comments in, why don't you think about what you need to share, what you should say about it and how you should be interacting on Google plus in order to maximize your online exposure? This isn't Facebook. What you say, and how you say it has consequences in search engines.

Join us now, add your Google plus account in the comments and we'll add you to our circles (if you have a complete profile and an intention of interacting). Remember that an incomplete profile, or just posting stuff without interacting is not social, it's just spam.

I've done all the other tricks but haven't linked my Google+ account in my signature yet.  I'll work on that this weekend.

Melissa - I have suggested this for feature. I hope it does because folks at Active Rain really need to understand the power of what Google+ can do for their business. It is the most powerful social network because it combines sociability with SEO! People have to understand this is GOOGLE!!

Hi Melissa - You and Bill are definitely onto something here. AR is a great base to build Google+ participation on - we can quickly build a productive network there utilizing relationships we already have. It's very cool seeing my picture on page 1 SERPs, and being the only one there. And now I have to work on being active in my participation there. Great post.

I so agree Melissa.  My posts have been coming up in the searches and more importantly, the hits to my website are increasing rapidly, and I believe this is the main reason.  (they've been consistently growing week to week but much faster since I started using the platform more over the last month or two.).

It will get even more important over time as more people get on there and you'll come up in more personalized results.

Li - thank you.

Bryan - based on everything I've seen lately authorship is going to be more and more important. Of course part of that is your connections on G+ too, so be sure to be making friends and influencing discussion!

Bill - thank you again for all of your insight!

Dick - It is fun, isn't it? Though it seems, based on this search, that some of my local competors here in the rain are using it also.

Debbie - hmmm. I'll have to check out some of my search criteria and see if it is the same way.

Chris - don't forget to participate after you read it!

Hi Melissa. You and Bill are absolutely right. I will be spending more time on Google Plus. Just recently added my Google Plus Business page, which still needs a lot of work.

Thanks for sharing your feedback and your experience with the tools you've used for Google + M. Also, through you I've read Bill's blogs as well.  I'm still a little slow on the uptake with it but totally see the value in it.

Melissa:  I'm following the info and posts here on AR by Bill (and others) regarding Google+ ... as well as trying to follow as best as I can on Google+ itself.  I'm gaining in my understanding and tweaking how I participate as I can.  I'm hoping even small changes can help my ranking and visibility.  Bill (and you) have both been great sharing what you know and what you are learning.  Definitely provides inspiration to us all and motivates me to do and try even more ...  I'm hoping the Feature gains you some more AR members that will try the same ..

Marti - Thank you for the cookie!

Jerry - I have added both to my circles....

Karen - You do an amazing job with marketing, so no doubt you will catch up quickly.

Gene - Thank you for the feature and the compliments. I'm definately still learning, but I have been seeing an increase in my rankings for keywords when I check on them - which is what this is all about!

Melissa, Do you have your G+ Profile and a business page? I have a profile page and my business page which is where I post everything. http://www.gplus.to/homestagingmaryland  As far as SEO etc.. is it better to post on my profile page or my business page?  Trying to become more social in Google plus but deciding where to put your time regarding social media can be overwhelming. Really appreciate all of your informative posts and lately, your videos.

Karen - here is one of my business pages: https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/109981529647063406085/109981529647063406085/posts

I do most of my stuff under my personal profile. G+ wouldn't let me verify my Realtor business page because it says it's an "association".

Great post. I too have seen the same thing with coming up for the Google ranking rather than the post. It is a great thing and I am certainly happy to make the effort.

I just discovered Bill's post on Google+ and authorship.  I have a google+ account, but honestly have not been doing much with using it to connect with people.  I really need to take some time and learn about it- sometime in November.
