Storage Solutions for Home Sellers Preparing to Move in SyracuseStorage Solutions for Home Sellers Preparing to Move in Syracuse

At some point, every home seller preparing to move in Syracuse is going to need storage solutions.  Even if you've kept your home clutter-free and made it a habit to donate outgrown and unused items, you never realize how much stuff you actually own until you have to move it.

Pack it Up

PODS moving containers are a wonderful storage solution for Syracuse home sellers as they offer great flexibility. After the container is delivered, you can fill at at your own pace. Then, the container can be delivered locally or long distance, or it can be stored between moves at a PODS storage center.

Pack the container tight like a puzzle and try to fill up every square inch. Stack boxes against the walls right up to the ceiling, and fit odd-shaped items like hockey nets, bicycles, and rocking chairs as tight as you can, then stuff soft or bendable things in between the spaces. Place blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, winter coats, and other soft items into heavy duty garbage bags and stuff them into empty space near the top of the container. You won't believe how much you can cram into a 8'x8'x16' container!

Impose on Your Neighbors and Relatives

Go ahead and impose on the people closest to you when you're looking for storage solutions while preparing to move. If someone asks what he or she can do to help out, say "Oh thanks, I need a place for my_______(fill in the blank), can I store it at your place until we move?" Better yet, don't wait for someone to ask, just go ahead and ask them! Just bear in mind that things happen (hurricanes, floods, dogs, etc.), so understand that if something happens to your collection of rare whatchamacallits while its at someone else's house, it's your loss, and don't hold the person responsible unless you want to ruin your relationship.

Use your Imagination

Think about what other resources you can use for creative storage solutions such as:

  • Your office or place of employment
  • The back of your van or trunk of your car
  • Your locker at the ski center
  • An empty room or closet at a club you belong to

Preparing for a move, whether local or long distance, is usually an exhausting task. These storage solutions will help make the job a little more manageable.

Hi Janelle,  This is a very timely post for me!  I have a seller who can't seem to get organized  to move.  She has to be out of the house in about a week and a half.  The last time I was there all I could see was a mess!  Your suggestion of PODS is great and I will certainly suggest it to her.  I've been trying to get her to do a garage sale but again she can't get organized.
