It’s time again for the annual Carlsbad Marathon.

Carlsbad Marathon January 27, 2013 in Carlsbad California The Tri-City Medical Carlsbad Marathon will take place on Sunday January 27, 2013 in Carlsbad California.

The Carlsbad Marathon is popular both with world class runners and viewers, a main reason being that a significant portion of the marathon course is along the beautiful Carlsbad coastline on historic Route 101/Coast Road (a.k.a. Carlsbad Boulevard).

And of course how many places can you run a marathon in January and not freeze your you-know-what?! Although given our recent chilly weather this is less true than normal, unless things change by then.

Carlsbad Marathon January 27, 2013 in Carlsbad California In addition to the full marathon (registration is CLOSED), there will be a Half Marathon, as well as a Kids Marathon Mile held at world-famous Legoland in Carlsbad that takes place the day before, Saturday January 27, 2013.

As always with these events, be aware there are some significant road closures for the event, beginning very early Sunday morning (to name a few - east bound lanes of Palomar Airport Road from El Camino to the Coast Road; Carlsbad Boulevard [the Coast Road] from La Costa Avenue all the way to the Buena Vista Lagoon).

The Carlsbad Marathon is a qualifying marathon for the famous Boston Marathon.

The Health and Lifestyle Expo is Friday January 25 from 2 until 6 pm in a big tent at the Plaza Camino Real Shopping Center off El Camino Real in Carlsbad (just south of the 78 freeway); the Start and Finish lines are nearby. The Expo continues on Saturday from 10 until 5 and then on race day from 7 am until 12 noon.

I've been debating about putting a marathon on my bucket list, but I just don't see myself as ever being able to run that for. Walk yes... run, I'm not so sure.

Melissa - I get that. I would walk, and certainly bike that distance, or further, but my back would never be able to handle a run.

Endre - ha ha. This is a very popular event and one of several marathons. There is also a big triathlon here as well.

Kay - yikes. I think there are some places here that have actually had frost. I agree, it's great scenery for running. Ocean views could certainly help take your mind off the pain of running. LOL

Jeff, not being a runner I didn't know a person had to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The Carlsbad Marathon looks like a good start to qualify for the big one.

Great post, Jeff. The real problem with this marathon is that it's so early in the season! As an avid runner, I'd love to do it and my wife and I have done the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll marathon once before. But as for this year, I'm debating to defer my 2012 NYC Marathon spot to 2013 or 2014, as that race was called due to Hurricane Sandy. When you get yourself into shape to run a marathon in January it means that you've logged a lot of time in the cold, rain and dark, so I applaud all those who will be out there tackling this beautiful course!
