Sometimes we have to have fun!!!
What do I do for fun other than in real estate in Fayetteville NC? One of my favorite things is being involved in Boy Scouts. While as a youth, I was only a Scout for 6 weeks. As an adult, I have been active for over 25 years. I have held many positions over the years at the troop, district and council level. I have attended 6 National Boy Scout Jamborees. But, one of the most fun things that I have been doing is as a part of a crossover ceremony team the first quarter of every year.
Let me explain. When a youth has completed all the requirements in Cub Scouts to earn his Arrow of Light, he is also usually at the age to become a Boy Scout. The event that happens here is referred to often as a Crossover Ceremony. For my non-Scouting friends, the Arrow of Light is the highest rank a Cub Scout can earn as the Eagle is the highest rank a Boy Scout can earn.
Many years ago, my almost brother (we are often called twins) wrote a script for this ceremony. He has been doing it for about 25 plus years and I have been part of the team for almost 20 years. Our ceremonial team consists of 5 adults Scouts (we are called Scouters) and any where from 3 to as large 10 Boy Scouts plus several support folks.
Last night, we had 12 Cub Scouts earn their Arrow of Light and 13 Cubs that crossed over to become Boy Scouts. We also had one dad leave Cub Scouts (a pack) and become an Assistant Scoutmaster with a Boy Scout unit (a Troop). There were a lot of happy and proud parents and grandparents plus these new Boy Scouts were also excited.
What a wonderful and exciting evening!!!!
