There is something unfair afoot in regards to getting a ticket now a days. First, there is the economy that just makes any additional expenses a burden. Then there is the fact that you got caught right or wrong...then, it just gets worse from there. Now we all want to believe it promotes for a better community
BUSINESS MATH
Now,let's be frank about this. Police do not give tickets just to create a better society or a place where we can all proposer and live harmoniously. No, it is a revenue generator and cities are like businesses. They need income because they have expenses now more than ever. There are rules in business that cannot be ignored. Things have to pay for themselves. Let's apply this to getting a ticket dynamics:
IT COST MONEY TO MAKE MONEY AND... IT TAKES MONEY TO MAKE MONEY
The police patrolling are getting paid an average of $50k a year plus $25k in benefits per person. That officer cruises on a vehicle supplied by the agency. This vehicle has to be serviced and people are hired to do so. They get benefits too. Now lets say it costs $100k a year for one officer to patrol, then he has to bring that in or more to pay for himself. In most instances, they bring in many times their expenses. They have to because there are other expenses to be paid
THE MATH SAYS YOU ARE GUILTY.....forget what happened or why in a lot of situations
It cost money to maintain a courtroom. The judge, the building, the clerk, the bailiff, the phone systems, utilities and so much more generate expenses. That is why in addition to finding you guilty and having you pay the fine, there are court costs levied against you too. The business math says you are PRONE to be more guilty because being innocent doesn't pay the bills!
NOW FOR THE INSULTS TO THIS INJURY
1. Tickets on on our record for 3 years. Think about this. You just finished paying for what you did and now someone is starting a timely record to see if you not only do it again but to continue to punish you by keeping it in the public arena for 3 years
2. Insurance companies ding you for that ticket. They raise your rates and keep it on record for years too
3. Get another ticket, and the fine is more, the insurance is more and the record is still running.
4. Try fighting a ticket. It is a half day to a full day process. Some have to take off work to do so. Getting help from-the many agencies available to fight the ticket is not user friendly. No one at the court wants to give legal advice or help....just forms and instructions or plead guilty and pay.
5. Stress is right up there with losing a loved one or your job..
6. Your word against a policeman means nothing. That one really stings. No that the officer isnt telling the truth as they see it, it is just that their word matters more than yours no matter what happened. Everyone knows this and many find out in court
7. Traffic school..? More money to be paid and time wasted, but an alternative to having it on your record.
YOU CAN CATCH THE PUBLIC ANYTIME DOING WRONG.....BUT THEN WHAT....?
No one fully stops at a stop sign. Every-ones speed increases down hill, up hill at times and when they are trying to exit the freeway timely and carefully. . People do follow too close and don't signal all the time. Parking tickets: well you either want us there or you don't especially if you are shopping or attending to business. People speed yes, but the flow of traffic sometimes promotes that....Speed traps do trap people, Radar works so well that you are devastated to even see the machine. Being human and driving can be costly....
Look, all I am saying is that getting a ticket is a one-sided business and it costs you for years to come. It is not an equitable or a just arena, but one that you are admonished to stay out of or else you suffer dearly.....All I can say is that is no excuse for this system to operate without impunity, justice or fairness..
