National Cheeseburger Day is being celebrated on September 18th. (This, by the way, is different from National Burger Day which is celebrated on May 28th). What could be more American (besides Coke and applie pie) than a juicy cheesburger? And what a great excuse to go off our diets if even for one day.
Legend has it that sometime in the 1920's someone in Chicago asked for a slice of cheese to be added to his burger and voila, the birth of the cheeseburger! But there are lots of places that lay claim to having "invented" the cheeseburger. So I suppose we won't ever really know it's origins.
It's estimated that the average American eats over 100 burgers per year and while there don't seem to be statistics as to what portion of these are cheeseburgers, it's probably safe to assume that a big percentage of these burgers are actually cheeseburgers.
It's not a far stretch to say that cheeseburgers have achieved a sort of "cult status." Did you know the cheeseburger has its own Facebook page for National Cheeseburger Day? I suppose these days we should expect Facebook pages for just about anything and everything, but I must admit finding this out did give me pause for thought for a minute. To take this one step further, Charlotte can boast its own Facebook Burger Blog.
Allrecipes.com provides a link to over 80 cheeseburger recipes. So if you're one of those Americans who consumes oer 100 burgers a year and are inclined to make your own, you can go for almost an entire year without repeating yourself in terms of a cheeseburger recipe. Allrecipes.com has also provided a great link to a video on how to cook the perfect burger.
If you're planning to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day in Charlotte, we have lots of great burger joints as well as high end restaurants, like The Palm, who will serve up great cheesburgers tomorrow. But this year it seems that the "burger restaurant du jour" and the place to do it is at Bad Daddy's Burger Bar, This roadhouse-inspired burger bar has three locations in Charlotte, so you don't need to travel far for one of their highly praised burgers. Zagats has listed Charlotte's Bad Daddy's Burger Bar on their top 25 burger restaurants this year.
National Cheeseburger Day on September 18th should prove to be a fun and tasty day for one and all.
