Top Scoring public schools in Charlotte NC 2014 are a helpful tool for families deciding where to purchase a home. Finding the perfect home in a great neighborhood with top scoring public schools is a goal of many Charlotte NC home buyers. Top schools not only benefit the students with a great education, but they also help maintain real estate values, protect against extreme market fluctuations, and will likely give you an advantage when you sell in the future.
Because the NC Department of Public Instruction doesn't rank public schools (it just reports test scores), I decided to put together some charts from the data that rank Charlotte elementary, middle and high schools. These charts show test scores from the 2013-2014 school year. Remember, there's a lot MORE to a school than just its test scores - arts, music, athletics, extracurricular activities, safety, etc. But test scores do offer a benchmark for comparisons.

Top Scoring Public Schools in Charlotte NC 2014 - Test Scores Increase Across the Board
I will say that I was happy to see the increase in overall test scores for Charlotte public schools. Last year, the scores dropped significantly because North Carolina had adopted the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). NC and many other states saw huge drops in their test scores, which apparently is common when adopting new standards.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) test scores increased this year in all areas tested. CMS schools also showed great improvement in college and career preparedness - a new proficiency standard. Also, the NC Dept. of Public Instruction says that 82.8% of Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools met or exceeded their growth requirements during the last school year. However, if you look all of the scores, including those from some of the lower performing schools, this statement is disheartening. It shows that the bar was pretty low for some of these schools. But, every bit of progress is a positive thing, right?
