A funny thing happened today while I preparing to deliver Meals on Wheels and it turned out so nicely. I was putting the food that I pick up at Pembrooke Nursing Home into my car when a man came up to me and asked me if I was a Meals on Wheels delivery person. Apparently, through a miscommunication, he thought he was meeting a driver today who would take two 8th grade students from a local school along for the ride so they could see someone giving back to the community.
I was a little confused because no one had told me and to be sure I was doing the right thing, I called the director and sure enough, while it wasn't supposed to be today, she had told the school that we could do it. I was happy to help so I asked him if he and the two kids wanted to follow me. He said "can they go with you and I can go back to work?" I handed the dad my card and suggested he might want to know to whom, exactly, he was entrusting the two young people.
We had a great time, they were really nice kids, and it was a real pleasure to be in their company.
Today, I'm thankful that I apparently appear totally trustworthy. I'm thankful I got to meet and introduce Fiona and Mason to my Meals on Wheels recipients. Both were really great kids that made me feel hopeful about the future of our country. Bright, happy, healthy, truly a blessing to be around.
The sun is shining, there's more than a hint of spring in the air and all seems right with the world today.
Carpe diem!
