- Mortgage rates Improved sharply last week.
Short term closings... Lock the improvement. Friday, mortgage rates prices improved 0.04 point. This was not enough to improve mortgage rates or fees. The market experienced high volatility. - 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 3.48 percent with an average 0.6 point for the week ending September 22, 2016, down from last week when it averaged 3.50 percent. A year ago at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 3.86 percent.
