Baby Hummers Ready to Leave the Nest
We have lots of hummingbirds in Carlsbad, year-round. They are fun to watch, especially close up. It's pretty amazing how they can maneuver and how fast they move - up and down, back and forth, and hovering - and even funnier to watch them chase each other or the larger birds!
These baby hummers at a friend's house in Encinitas a few years ago were pretty ready to move on - they overflowed the next but perhaps were not quite ready to leave.

Heck of a photo Jeff. We see hummingbrds on occasion but they move so fast I rarely get a chance to snap photo.
What a beautiful photo Jeff! I never got that close to a hummingbird to get a close-up photo.

Nick & Trudy Vandekar - the nest was about 2" in diameter from what I could see. These babies were pretty big and overflowed a bit!
They WERE really cute Sonja Patterson but looked a bit nervous that we were nearby. Glad I was able to snap a photo and leave them alone!

Hi Dick Greenberg - we have lots of them but so far this is the first and only time I have seen young ones. I have seen some flying around that appear to be younger since they don't fly quite as well as others.
Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I've seen the eggs but not newly hatched ones.

Beth Atalay - I've tried many times and just am not very good at getting photos of them. The babies in the nest made it easy!

Jeff, I can watch birds for hours. The hummers are so fast ... truly amazing how the flutter and move about. No doubt those babies are having babies of their own now.
Thanks for sharing this picture, Jeff. Love seeing bits of nature from all over the world. Hummingbirds can be especailly hard to photograph since they're not only small, but fast! Very well done.

Hummingbirds are so fun to watch. I have had feeders and thinkI might put one out this weekend to attract them.
Hi Jeff Dowler - they are my favorite bird! - Those two look so cute. I put feeders out of sight of each other so that the territorial humming birds can't see others feeding.
And here I came over expecting to see some mini vehicles before they become big and ugly
Kathleen Daniels - yep, the Hummers are a favorite and I never tire of their antics. I love how we see them daily while back in New England we almost never saw them.

We put a feeder out which they use, but they seem to prefer the flowers Debbie Reynolds
They really ARE pretty territorial, although I have seen feeders with 8 and more at them so somehow they co-exist, if they want to Sheri Sperry - MCNE®

I love these little birds Jeff, but it is a bit early up here for them, winter is still making appearances about every other day.
Cute! We lose the hummingbirds in the winter, but we have a feeder on our back portch in the summer and we love watching them! -Kasey

Hi Jeff -- nicely captured....
Those baby hummingbirds are merely going through the pre-approval process...they will soon be hunting for a nest to call their own soon enough likely with mother's consent.
Jeff, Hummingbirds are my favorite bird and I find these birds to be beautiful to watch and fascinating .
