Balance of Work/Life is Easy Peezy if you love what you do!

Jeff Dowler offered up a good challenge this month The Challenges of Work-Life Balance – Your Personal Story. Everyone has a different take on this balancing work/life thing! Some say its all work, others say it’s all play and there are those in-between!

I love what I do! As a former educator I learned nurturing others is rewarding and recognize my passion is helping others grow, learn and become empowered. Knowledge is power! I enjoy the process of learning and understand it never stops whether in my personal life or work. Teaching involves just as much listening as speaking. I’ve found asking the right questions and putting my listening ears on will help the process move along more expediently. To answer Question #1 I don't find Balancing Work-Life a struggle (not that I didn't when I first started). I find it fun and exhilarating! I'm happiest when I'm busy.

Balancing Work and Life can be a delicate balance but loving what I do makes it so much easier! Whether I’m nurturing Handsome Hudson and Beautiful Beckett or mentoring my daughter Melissa in real estate it all requires the same listening skills and offering options and choices. I mentor others in my office and it’s exciting to see their “light bulb” moment when they get it!

I often refer to myself as a business manager in the sale of a home.  My perception of the role of a listing agent is to manage the process and keep all parties focused on the sale of the home. It all starts by educating my sellers once they have decided to sell we have a product to market and their house needs be the best of the best of their competition!

It’s no different than my personal life..if I can instill; “It’s important to reach your potential, what every that might be,” then I'm good! So in answering Question #2 I don't find issues that interfere....I set boundaries and my clients respect them because I manage their expectations. I'm always nurturing in my work and personal life..it’s all intertwined.

To answer Question #3 its easy..I schedule weekly time with family, friends and plan several times a year to do what Geno and I love; travel, exploring lands and oceans around the globe. When I’m gone I completely step away..I have plenty of able agents more than competent to handle my business. I’m not the only one who will diligently work for my clients. Time away to totally rejuvenate is the key to building my reserves back up. Playing as hard as I work is my strategy!!!

I find Work/Balance is Easy Peezy because I love what I do!

Hi Dorie Dillard , Well deserved feature and one that they just don't teach for the new agents that are starting out. I love and adopt the belief that if you love what you do, you don't have to work a day of your life. And then add that recharging your batteries is a must do and it keeps the body and mind healthy. Being a lover of travel to capture to magnificence of the world is to appreciate our place in it.

I often marvel at how small I am in the big world we live in and still have the authority to help others make their own best decisions. As Andy Rooney would say , "Isn't life Amazing, after all."

I love your post!

Just 45 days into my business, I'm finding while I'm more "on" than "off" in the business, I also am having such a good time reconnecting with friends and acquaintances, it doesn't feel like work! I tell everyone that Sunday's are for family and they likely won't hear from me nor see me and to my surprise, my phone hardly rings nor vibrates from texts! Then come Monday it's ringing!! What a wonderful business we are in - we create and develop our business to what we need and want AND we get to help people along the way, I'm so excited to be in real estate! Thanks for your post :-)

Amen, planning is key. Inform future clients what your daily service schedule is and when to expect call backs or text messages, what days you're off, including vacations and if that is acceptable, provide them the very best service you can.

The balancing act changes every day. Much easier when the kids are older.  One reason I got into this business was so I could be home for mykids after school--that worked out pretty well.
