November seems to be a time to be grateful, a time to be thankful, a time to give, a time to receive and a time to write about being grateful.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to help many of my clients achieve their dreams of either buying a home, or selling their homes in the greater Los Angeles area. There were many clients whom I helped sell their vacant lots from Malibu all the way to Mount Washington or helped them in their purchase of vacant lots in the Hollywood Hills. The list of opportunities has been numerous due to the fact, that I have been in the greater Los Angeles Real Estate Market for over twenty plus years and I have not limited myself to a specific segment of the Real Estate Market in Los Angeles rather I had developed and have numerous niche specialties.
I can share with you, that being a successful Realtor in the greater Los Angeles Real Estate Market comes with many wonderful opportunities to meet and work with a diverse list of clients, from middle-class buyers and sellers to multi-millionaires and even a few Billionaires. Some of my clients were in the Entertainment Industry from the supporting jobs all the way to the A-listers. I also had many clients who were developers and some who just had great dreams.
Not only were my clients from a diverse financial background, they were also from all over the Globe. I have had buyers as well as sellers from Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The reason I am sharing this with you is, so you can get a better grasp of how grateful I am to all my present and previous clients. There are and were many challenges with working with such a diverse client base. I will only focus here on only one aspect of the challenges.
How do you show your appreciation to a buyer or a seller whom you just helped close a transaction?
This is not a simple answer for me, considering the fact, that I cannot just show them my appreciation in a cookie cutter manner, such as giving standard key chains or whatever is customary in other parts of the country. First it would not fit my personality, nor my style, second, I am a firm believer each client is different and to show them how grateful I am, after every transaction I always tried to do something different.
Some of my clients received wines that were 100 pt. rated by Robert Parker, others received top of the line Champagnes, others I made donations to their favorite charity. Others I went out to dinner with and some we became friends. There were no consistent gifts, the only thing consistent was, that I tried to give them what they liked. This was my way of conveying, that I was grateful for the trust instilled in me and how much I appreciated our relationship. Then there were some whom I thanked and wished them well in their future endeavors. Over ninety percent appreciated how I represented them and my track record of repeat clients over the years confirms this as well.
The only consistent part of my client appreciation is my annual Holiday Cards that I mail to them around Christmas.
There was a time I used to put a See’s Candy gift certificates in everyone’s Holiday Card. Then when the market changed and I heard about all the animals that needed homes and the rescue groups were in desperate need for funding because people slowed down with their donation. I took the same amount I would have sent to my clients in gift certificates and donated it to the Animal Rescue Groups that were in desperate need for funds on behalf of my clients. Many loved the idea and started donating on their own.
