Life-Altering Decision at Yosemite Half Dome Summit

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Of all the places to get engaged, I had not considered a spot where falling to your death could be eminent. I mean, what is it with men and heights? I recall when my husband and I decided to get married, and he seemed a bit disappointed that it happened so organically and not at the top of the Eiffel Tower. But for some, it is very important where the question gets popped.

Whatever happened to a romantic dinner at a very expensive restaurant and slipping the ring into a glass of champagne or into a slice of cake? Or, just getting up to use the restroom and then falling to one knee? You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Perfect Spot for a Marriage Proposal at Half Dome Summit in Yosemite.

Good morning Elizabeth. Wherever and whenever it happens if it is right it is perfect.

Quite a tale. As a veteran of 4 Half Dome summits, I know one doesn't head up the cables if rain is threatening--I believe that factored into the recent death there.

Lottie Kendall Well, it was wet and the rocks were slippery. Fortunately, they used harnesses.

Oh, no... that wouldn't have worked for me. I am so afraid of heights, it is even funny.

I wanted to fight it, and we went for a 3-week vacation into the mountains, and I went with more tours than anyone else, and it did not help a bit. I felt miserable.

Walking on a path on a side of a mountain, I was walking and my body was at an angle to match the curve of the mountain... Guys laughed at me.

When we got down, there was a creek and there was a tree trunk over the creek, and the tour guide was standing in the water and was helping everybody to cross over the creek. I was the only one who refused his help and easily crossed to the other side. The tour guide and everyone else had their jaws dropped. They could not understand that I had a perfect balance and could easily do it, but could not walk a normal wide path if it was a bit up

Hi Elizabeth... I guess whatever works... of course, as my husband is afraid of heights I know I'd be safe from being proposed to on any mountain. Besides, my personal idea of roughing it is a 5-star hotel! My husband just took me out to pick out my own engagement ring (thankfully!) one morning... so that was my proposal.

Elizabeth- I think it's beautiful and they will have wonderful stories to tell about it. That said...I don't do heights!!!  Larry couldn't even get me to climb up the deer blind!

That story about getting married to pay less for your fishing license, is so you, Elizabeth.  Now, if only marriages would quietly expire like a fishing license so there were no costly divorce proceedings.

Jon Zolsky, Daytona Beach, FL My husband likes to mimic the French guide we used in Provence and says, when facing hills, "Just a little up and a little down." But it's never just "a little."

Nina Hollander I'm with you, I'd rather rough it in a 5-star. Never forgot how glorious it felt to leave the government accomodations in Cuba to sleep at the Four Seasons in Miami.

Kathy Streib What about a Bear blind? Would you walk up an incline in say, Wrangell, Alaska, maybe at the Anan Bear Sanctuary, to view a bear blind?

Myrl Jeffcoat Yes, I think marriage licenses should expire with the option to renew, or even auto renew features, LOL.
