Who Says There Aren't Any Do Overs!
When I first read Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor, ePRO, CRS, RCS-D Contest - Riches in the Niches it made me smile - real big! I thought back to my early days in the business of which I had no clue as to what a niche meant. What I did know is that I wanted to work with people I knew, liked and had similar lifestyles. I loved to hike, play tennis & racket ball, golf, aerobics and I loved being a real estate agent. And I hung out with like-minded happy folks.
I started out my real estate career in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1987. My office was at the Country Club so that offered me a lot of opportunities for floor time AND our broker handed us really good prospects - not leads - honest to goodness buyers and sellers. So I kind of got a leg up pretty quickly - I was lucky and in the right office. I might also mention our broker was an absolutely awesome business man (lucked out again). He taught me how to take the 'right' care of clients and solve their problems with ease - no drama. KISS.
The very first thing I would have done was adopted the Anna Banan' brand! Who knew that once I started using the Anna Banana brand in 1993 people would LOVE it plus it made them smile too. They didn't forget me! So BINGO hot off my license I'd be Anna 'Banana"!
Next- From day one I'd set up a spread sheet with what my mail outs were going out for an entire year AND I'd create them in advance so I had no excuse for not getting them out! Since I lived and worked in the country club I'd choose a few neighborhoods right there and market them with postcards and personal dropbys with 'something of value'. I'd also get more involved with the Chamber of Commerce, volunteer to be on a committee and be an ambassador. I also would have taught a few aerobic classes as the club was just down the street. It would have been a fun way to meet more local folks and work out at the same time and create client relationships and friendships. I would build that hyper local sphere and I'd work on it CONSISTENTLY. And of course have a lot of fun along the way.
PS Of course today I'd change a few methods of delivery but one thing would not change - consistently connecting personally with people. That was important then and it still is extremely important in today's fast paced world!
