A little bit of rain goes a long way.

Phoenix is in the desert, that doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. We don't get a lot of rain and most of it comes in our two rainy seasons January and the summer monsoon. The summer monsoon is a time when the weather pattern shifts and storms drift up from the Gulf of Mexico. The media will often focus on negative aspects of the monsoon-like when one of the big dust storms engulfs the valley. It makes great television.

But with the monsoon also comes much-needed rain and the flora around the valley reacts appreciatively. We have been fortunate to have several nice soakings in the last week or two.

Sage 1

This morning I went outside to find my sage bushes, which are normally green, covered with bright purple flowers. The flowers will only last a week or two, but it adds some nice color to our desert landscape.

It is early in the monsoon season, so we can look forward to several more of these colorful blooms before the weather switches back to normal. By then it will be cooling off and we will welcome our other colorful visitors, the snowbirds. But for now, I can just enjoy a desert in bloom.

I'm jealous of your rain, Joseph.  We don't normally see it in the month of July.  Your pictures are beautiful.
