Do You Trust Your Real Estate Agent?

yes or no?There can be a lot of factors to consider when you choose your real estate agent.

Do you need a general real estate agent or a specialist?

Does the agent need to know a certain locality?

Do the agent need to know a certain housing type?

We could go down a long list of potential expertise qualifications.

And then of course there's personality.

Maybe you prefer a "fun" agent.

Maybe you prefer analytical.

Maybe you want an agent with similar beliefs as you.

And once you clear the expertise and personality hurdles, there's one more big hurdle to clear.

Do you trust your real estate agent?

I think for some of you, that's a definite NO.

You don't trust them to know everything you need to know to make the right home buying decision for you.

Why do I think that?

Because I get to talk to many of you after you go to the Internet to find more information about the subdivision you want or about Greater Cincinnati patio homes and condos.

You don't trust that your agent knows enough to find you THE best option, so you're searching on your own.

When someone reaches out to us, one of the earliest questions I ask is "Do you have an agent you're working with?".  Some of you admit to having an agent already, others fib a bit, but the answer you provide sets the parameters for what I can and can't do for you.

The fact that you HAVE an agent that stands to make serious money off of your decision and you're calling another agent for answers tells me there is a gap in trust.

Rather than calling me, you need to reconfirm that you have the right agent to best take care of you.

If you can't answer that you trust your agent, you need to reevaluate your selection.

Find the agent that has the knowledge you need, the customer service you deserve, and someone you can trust.

Hello Bill(and Liz too) - maybe it isn't trust that's missing but there is obviously  "something" as you share in this post.  Your findings based on contact with buyers contacting you reveals much about the motivation of agent-client engagement.  The answer?  Hmm...if you have an agent representing your interests, why are you contacting me?  Sometimes the answer may be revealed while mystery or head-scratching can often ensue.

I think there's an absence of faith that there agent will find them the right home, either because they don't think the agent is watching closely enough, or working aggressively enough for them, or just doesn't know enough about the area to know where to look.  With our niche, I'd suspect many agents don't know the where to look since the homes aren't clearly identified as a separate category in our MLS.

It's all about understanding the nuances of a market not just the overview but the details.

Bill- you're not buying a pair of shoes. Buyers are making one of the largest, if not the largest, purchase they will ever make. They need to feel like they can trust their agent.  When buyers don't feel that their agent can help them navigate this journey, then perhaps they should find someone they can trust to do so.
