Hope you have had a very Happy Armed Forces Day…
Most people always confuse Armed Forces Day with Memorial Day, over the years I have written posts about this very subject. Armed Forces Day is all about the living. Let me share what Armed Forces Day is all about. It is celebrating all six branches of the US Military: The Army, the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Marine Corps, the Air Force and the Space Force.
This is a day to honor all members of the US Armed Forces. Hope you had the opportunity to see some parade, fly-over, marches and other public events appreciating those who are serving in the military.
Allow me to give you a little history lesson: Armed Forces Day began in 1950 when President Truman established a day to celebrate the branches of the US Miliary, which was united under the Department of Defense. Needless to say the first Armed Forces Day was marked with parades and air shows around the country including a march in Washington, D.C.
As someone who has served in the US Army, I get so annoyed every year when I see people, friends and acquaintances confusing the three holidays… Just to be clear Memorial Day is to remember and mourn those who gave their lives for us. Veterans day is to honor the ones who served in the military aka veterans both living and deceased.
While Armed Forces Day is to celebrate those who are currently serving in the US Armed Forces. Ironically the other there are Federal Holidays while this one is not. Go figure….
So with that said a huge thank you to those who are currently wearing the UNIFORM of one of the six branches of the military.
