Hope you have had  a very Happy Armed Forces Day…

Most people always confuse Armed Forces Day with Memorial Day, over the years I have written posts about this very subject. Armed Forces Day is all about the living. Let me share what  Armed Forces Day is all about. It is celebrating all six branches of the US Military: The Army, the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Marine Corps, the Air Force and the Space Force.

This is a day to honor all members of the US Armed Forces. Hope you had the opportunity to see some parade, fly-over, marches and other public events appreciating those who are serving in the military.

Allow me to give you a little history lesson: Armed Forces Day began in 1950 when President Truman established a day to celebrate the branches of the US Miliary, which was united under the Department of Defense. Needless to say the first Armed Forces Day was marked with parades and air shows around the country including a march in Washington, D.C.

As someone who has served in the US Army, I get so annoyed every year when I see people, friends and acquaintances confusing the three holidays… Just to be clear Memorial Day is to remember and mourn those who gave their lives for us. Veterans day is to honor the ones who served in the military aka veterans both living and deceased.

While Armed Forces Day is to celebrate those who are currently serving in the US Armed Forces. Ironically the other there are Federal Holidays while this one is not. Go figure….

So with that said a huge thank you to those who are currently wearing the UNIFORM of one of the six branches of the military.

Good morning Endre. Many forget the sacrifices made by many to protect and guard their freedom. So sad! Yet, many feel like they have to do what they have to do. They deserve a big "thank you" everyday. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Endre... that's one of my pet peeves, as well... people who confuse these three holidays. But maybe a bigger pet peeve is the increasing number of people who don't even have a clue about them... they just think they are excuses for a long weekend or day off.

Yesterday I was cleaning house and didn't have time to attend any celebrations for Armed Forces day.  I hope that you enjoyed your day to the fullest though!

I am not sure I knew the distinction.  Thank you for the clarification and thank you to all that are currently serving.  It is time to raise the flag at our household once again.

Hi Endre,
I'm not sure why there is confusion. Their very names are pretty self-explanatory.  Like Nina Hollander, Broker , I am frustrated by those who use them as excuses to celebrate by eating and drinking too much and have no clue what the real reason for them is.

Thank you for your service!

First of all Endre thank you for your service!  We do know the difference between the holidays.  Our flag was flying proudly yesterday in honor of all service people giving to their country. Gary served 8 years in the Air Force and is proud of his service as well.

Hi Endre- I suppose my biggest pet peeve is when people forget that Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while in the service of their country. I do honor those who have served all year long.

Endre, the Armed Forces Day may have already passed, but I think we should remember the brave men and women who serve, every day!

Besides saying "thank you for your service" to you, I'd like to say, "it's an honor to have met you!"
