The Town of Addison's Parks & Recreation Department now has a pickleball coach - Ray Love! It also has both indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, not to mention plenty of avid players.
If you're new to the sport, there's a beginners class every Monday at 9:00am in the gym at the Addison Athletic Club on Beltway Drive. The club is open to Addison residents and town employees only. There is a ONE TIME (not once a year) fee of $10 to join and you'll have to prove each year that you still reside in the town.
If you're not familiar with pickleball, it's like a combination of badminton, tennis, and ping pong. And you'll probably have to forget most of how you're used to playing those sports to be able to adapt to pickleball.
In the photo to the right, you can see coach Ray Love providing tips to some of the class participants. He not only coaches, he plays! He's heading to two out-of-state tournaments this spring, including the National Senior Games.
Besides the beginners class, there's open play indoors in the basketball gym Monday through Friday, 10-noon and on the outdoor courts Saturdays 9-noon. New this spring are two outdoor leagues:
- Advanced doubles: Wednesdays between 6-8pm, April 5 - May 3
- Beginners doubles: Mondays between 6-8pm, April 3 - May 1
- Fee: $20 per team
Pickleball is fun and great exercise! Give it a try!
