Sunday Afternoon, Not Busy~So, What Are You Doing?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Fran Rokicki Realty, LLC

Since, as Realtors, we are really one big family, my question to you is;  on a Sunday afternoon, you are not busy, would you consider stopping by a fellow Realtor's open house?  I hear more and more about the Realtors who have no one show up to their open houses.  So, I have started a little campaign to stop by and see some of these homes on afternoons that I may have a half hour or so to spare.  I won't wear a name tag, or sign in as a Realtor.  I don't want to distract would be buyers.  I think it is just a nice gesture to stop by, take a quick tour of the home and leave.  If I am asked to sign in, I would do so, but, without a title.   Funny, if folks driving by see a car, besides the Realtor's at the property, they have more of an urgency to stop and look at the home.

Times are tough and kindnessess are very much appreciated.  So, can you spare a few minutes of your weekend to encourage and show your support to a fellow Realtor?

Frances, I always make it a point to do a bunch of previewing on a Sunday "off", althought there are fewer of the these days!  If you're in the DC area, you could do a "pop by" of my listing with the most beautiful view of the Potomac River in the area!

Great idea... then again Sundays off end up being the big "catch up" day for housework, kids, etc....

I was told that I should always identify my licensee status when dealing with a real estate situation with other agents of the public. I do agree it is nice to visit other agent's open houses, to give feedback on price and condition, to keep abreast of inventory and in friendship to fellow agents.

I do make an attempt to catch an open house or two. Unfortunately, I've been the one sitting on them every weekend. I would be delighted if a Realtor stopped by.  It has happened often that agents that have listings close by will stop in just to see what their competition is like.

Okay, I am hosting an open house tomorrow!  Right near UCONN, home of the Huskies!  The weather should be perfect, sunny all afternoon:)  I will return to this post to let you know if any Realtors stopped by to see the home and say hello!

Frances, I stop by anywhere from 3 - 8 Open Houses every Sunday, and many of them are real slow.  It is a great way to meet other Realtors and it helps the time go by a little quicker.

In our small market we know all the agents, so I would not be anonymous, but that's certainly a good way to preview and know your market even better in slow times.

If you are a recruiting Broker, what a good service to provide to those agents that you want to become part of your office!  Without asking, you are inviting:)

Fran, I think this is a wonderful idea.  If I am not doing an open, I do try and stop by a couple.  Or if it is a crazy day that I have two opens, I might stop at someone else's in between, just to see what is out there!

Thanks for stopping by Dawn!  I really wish I lived near all of you folks.  We would really ROCK!  I am lucky enough to have several good Realtor friends.  I feel like they are family.  When they host an open house or a broker open, I always attend to support them.

Rod, You have to do what you have to do.  I attend 7:30am Mass, Catholic.  He understands that I have to work.  He is okay with it.

Fran,

I am a big fan of visiting open houses on the weekends that I'm not holding one myself.  Its a great way to get to know the inventory in my farm area, and meet the other agents that are working in it.  As was already mentioned, i've met some really great to work with agents that way.

I make it a point if possible to visit all the oens in my immediate area. I also go to the brokers opens as well. I think it is important that we support each other. Thanks for helping get the word out.
