Nothing to say? Can't say it? Not allowed to say it?

So many agents...

So few bloggers...

This one struck a responsive chord today:

From Seth Godin today:

"...Persuading someone to start a blog is evolution marketing. Lots of people have been brainwashed that they have nothing to say, or can't say it, or aren't allowed to say it."

Bull's-eye!

How many co-workers have ever glazed over when you mentioned blogging on real estate?  I usually have figured that the issue is the fear of nothing to say, or hear that they 'just aren't good writers."

And every now and then you hear the agent who says their broker won't turn them loose to blog.  "...aren't allowed to say it."

So, I quit proselytizing about blogging, and keep to myself.  And that's OK.  We are all independent contractors, and will either find success via the Millionaire Real Estate Agent model, or will carve our own niche.  Or be mediocre.  Or fail.

All are choices, but regardless, we will have stories to tell.

(Now I have finally put Google Reader on my I-Google page, and that is where Seth's Blog caught my eye today.  Thanks to Mike Mueller.  Ididn't even finish the video, as I sprinted to my I-Google page to install Google Reader, which was just hanging out looking for a home.  I need to read Mike's stuff more diligently.  Hmmm... Google Reader...)

Some find it hard to get started.  I say just jump in and then later once you discover some faux pas, just go back and delete those first posts!

I was very hesitant to start my blog, but it has been so much fun.  I'll be out for the evening and see something, or someone will talk about an event, and I start thinking "WOW, that would be a great post."  So, just start, it will be fun!

Mike - You can't go wrong with Mike Mueller that's for sure.  I just commented on a blog recently about the problems of trying to "convert" other agents and spoke about the "I have nothing to say" syndrome.  I even had a bit of it, but once they let me loose...man oh man, look out.  I love writing and although I don't think I'm "technically" good at it, I think my voice works for me.  I think that's the key to getting other people to do it.  Just being yourself and writing.  Once they start (especially here at ActiveRain), they'll be able to see how many people are "new" or face the same fears.  Once you get past the hump, it becomes almost second nature.  PS Love you use of RES on the sidebar...great idea!

As a newer member, I have to agree it is hard to get started -- and muster up enough courage to post something - anything!  And then -- if it doesn't get many comments . . . shattering!  I agree with Richard -- just do it -- you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Hey Mike- it took me a long time after you invited me to start blogging - because I didn't know what to say or how to say it.  Now I realize that you can say anything- maybe it won't get read, but you'll get better all the time. My first few blogs were terrible, but now subjects just pop up at me all the time.

Thanks for getting me started here.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Mike- The biggest stumbling block I get from other agents is that they have nothing to say.  I give them suggestions and talk them through the possibilities but they never start.  I taught an in depth blogging class to 40 agents in our Market Center in May and only one agent was has even attempted a blog.  I stopped trying to drag the critters to the ole watering hole too.

Richard,

Agreed!

Rebecca,

You are feeling that rush of confidence, aren't you?!!

Matt,

AR has provided a launch pad for a lot of real estate bloggers.

Margaret,

You can't sweat the comments.  Sooner or later, you will hit the bull's-eye, and someone will pick up one of your posts.  Excessive caution won't get you there, though...

Linda,

Sorry to be slow to get back to you.  It was 'Cheesecake Day."  :D

Tim,

You gotta sell to "buying signs," and if there aren't any, you are wasting two peoples' time.

Hey!  I thought of you and Craig...

Briefly.  Even mentioned it to Joann M.

It was so good...

I've quite trying to talk people into blogging as well.  They say "Oh but YOU are so good at it..>" but they didn't read the first 20 blogs that i deleted.  Oh well.  Make your excuses, I'm going to make me inbox fill up.

So many people use the excuse that they don't have anything to say.  That is the easiest one of all to fix.  Just think about your target audience and the niche market you are focusing on then write about and for those things!

Karen,

Yes, you get good by p-r-a-c-t-i-c-e, don't you?  Or, are we "bobrn to blog?"  I don't think so...

Kathy,

Maybe you should ask them about the local market, how many closings and how much inventory, or what can you buy for $150,000, and see if they have "anything to say."  Maybe they don't...
