wildlife: Albuquerque Goose - 10/12/11 10:12 AM
Albuquerque Goose
While walking along the Rio Grande River Bosque in Albuquerque we spotted this large beautiful Goose.  He watched us watching him then puffed out his chest then opened and flapped his wings as if to warn us that a camera shot would be tolerated but that was the extent of his patience.

wildlife: Getting Back To Nature At Rocky Mountain National Park - 10/07/11 02:36 AM
Getting back to nature at the Rocky Mountain National Park was an experience neither my wife nor I will ever forget.  The fall colors were amazing, October 14,000-foot snow-caps intriguing, wild life abundant and the chilly nights perfect for sleeping.  We were fortunate enough to catch a herd of Elk at dusk grazing near a stream.  The huge bull didn’t appreciate the clicks of the camera and let out a deafening bugle call for his ladies to head back across the stream and he meant right then!  On a full moon night the screams of coyotes and wolves echoed with the … (22 comments)

wildlife: Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge - 09/29/11 02:53 AM
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge
Each fall my wife and I enjoy the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.  If you’re a bird watcher or into photography it’s a must do.  Bosque del Apache Refuge is recognized as one to the top birding areas in the U.S.  In the fall the refuge is open from sunrise till sunset for all to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature.  We enjoy watching and taking photos of the some 15,000 sandhill cranes, ducks, snow geese, Ross’ geese, pintails, shovelers, eagles and a huge host of other birds.  You will find good hiking trails … (18 comments)

wildlife: Stunning Albuquerque Sunsets During Destructive Wildfires - 09/23/11 02:59 AM
Stunning Albuquerque Sunsets During Destructive Wildfires. Albuquerque NM is known to have some of the most gorgeous sunsets. This year the New Mexico and Arizona destructive wildfires of late spring and early summer brought blowing dust and soot over our area in the atmosphere but the positive results was some incredible sunsets. On some late afternoons the Albuquerque sky would actually look like it  was on fire or bleeding. This meld of events offered up some absolutely stunning beauty that would make anyone stop in awe of Mother Nature here in the High Desert.  Notice in some of these photos the … (26 comments)

wildlife: Wow! What a treat - 09/05/11 05:09 PM
While enjoying the beauty of Palo Duro Canyon we spotted these two wild turkeys! Instantly we went into silent mode as I hurriedly turned on the camera.  Normally turkey will not let humans get near them much less linger to be photographed.  These beautiful turkeys were busy pecking wild seeds, eating bugs and seemingly totally ignoring us.

wildlife: Elusive Mountian Jay - 08/28/11 02:25 PM
I finally caught a decent shot of this beautiful elusive Mountain Jay.  While spending a few down days at the Toas NM cabin he and his Jay pals always eluded the snap of my camera. The last morning my wife and I had just about given up on getting a good photo of the brilliant colored birds. Out of the blue Mr.Jay hops up to feed on the deck railing even calling his feathered friends to come join in the alluring feast.  Needless to say we delayed our cabin departure till they had finished feeding and disappeared into the Carson National … (9 comments)

wildlife: Osprey Raptor In Flight Over Jemez Wilderness - 08/26/11 02:22 AM
While tent camping in the Jemez (Pronounced Hemez) Wilderness this magnificent bird caught our eyes.  At first we thought Eagle!  As we followed her coming and going we realized she was an adult Osprey Raptor with a huge nest built in the highest tree to be found.  She had babies and was very carefully tending to their needs.  We later ran into a Forrest Ranger who also had been watching her and said she had nested there the past two years.  Sadly the NM wildfires burnt this entire area which is very near Los Alamos this spring.  We wonder about this … (14 comments)
