The California Department of Real Estate is charged with protecting the public from acts of real estate fraud and malfeasance committed by licensed brokers and salespeople.  There is a "recovery account" set up to help victims of intenetional fraud.
Over the past year or so, the DRE has been leveling alot of accusations against many different companies that were performing loan modifications, especially where "advance fees" are collected.
