Spring in Charlotte NC is for the birds and for the gardens.  And there’s no better place to spend some time in April than at the Winghaven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary.
Winghaven is set on three acres enclosed by brick walls in the heart of Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood.  The gardens were created in 1927 by Elizabeth and Edwin Clarkson to provide plantings for the birds that Elizabeth Clarkson loved.  The gardens consist of formal gardens with pathways and woodland areas.  The gardens provide nesting sites, cover, food and water for the many birds that make their homes there.

I am an avid gardener and I live in Union County NC.  Spring is my favorite season and Kings Greenhouse is my favorite local garden center.
Kings Greenhouse is actually a garden center with a little history in the area.  Its history and growth over the years mirrors the growth of Union County.

What would Spring in the Carolinas be without the Easter Bunny?  Next weekend, the Easter Bunny visits historic downtown Matthews NC twice.

On Friday, March 30, the Easter Bunny will have lunch with children ages two to five.  The luncheon will take place at the Matthews Community Center from 11am to 12pm.  The children will also do a fun craft and have a picture taken with the bunny.  Tickets for the lunch are $7 and can be purchased at the community center.

A Southern Spring at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden - 03/18/12 10:26 AM
Spring usually starts around March 15th in the Charlotte NC region.  It’s a glorious season that lasts until June.  One of the best places to see the glory of a Charlotte spring is at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden (DSBG).
A Southern Spring is the name that DSBG has given its events between mid-March and June.  Visitors to the gardens can enjoy special programming during this time in addition to strolling through the gardens and enjoying the spring-blooming bulbs, flowers, shrubs and trees.

Charlotte’s Spring season is ushered in on the March winds.  Those brisk March winds also bring residents of Lake Park NC their annual kite festival.
The Lake Park Kite Festival takes place on Saturday March 17th from 10am to 2pm.  It’s held at Founders Park, a large level open space in the center of some of Lake Park’s residential areas.

Green is the color of Spring in Charlotte.  Although the green leaves won’t have arrived yet on March 17th, there will be plenty of green around as Charlotte celebrates St. Patrick’s Day.
You can kick off the day at the 16th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in uptown Charlotte.  The bagpipes will be playing as the parade steps off at 11:00am and marches down Tryon Street from 9th Street south to 3rd Street.  Flags, floats, cheerleaders, drill teams and anyone who wants to be Irish for a day join the parade.  Last year’s parade had 60,000 spectators lining the street.

Waxhaw NC has been a great place to buy a new home since the late 1990s.  During the real estate boom of the 2000s, developers opened neighborhood after neighborhood in and around the town.  The great recession put a halt to development of new communities and many builders abandoned neighborhoods where they could no longer sell homes at the inflated prices of the boom years.  Construction came to a halt and a number of neighborhoods remained unfinished.
