virginia: Remember to vote! - 10/20/09 08:55 AM
Remember to vote! Election Day (Tuesday, November 3, that is) is only two weeks away. We know you’ll do your civic duty and hit the ballot box early and often. Lots of folks sacrificed plenty so you’d have the right, so the least you can do is exercise it.
And while you’re there, keep in mind the statewide candidates RPAC has endorsed: Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling, and Steve Shannon. RPAC’s Trustees did the research and made the call: When it comes to supporting real estate and your real estate business, these three have got what it takes.
Who else does? Head … (6 comments)

virginia: A Winter Deal in Summer! - 05/27/08 06:28 PM
While driving near Wintergreen Virginia we stopped at the Ski Barn.

Great deals are to be had as they are selling Winter Items at 40-50% off.
Why not buy at off season? Makes sense and may pay for the extra gas it takes to go shopping.

The Ski Barn is open for business all year just stop on by. It is a little strange to see this log cabin ski barn open this time of year but the saving are worth it!

Come and visit our area for Charlottesville Real Estate and do not forget we have skiing … (9 comments)

virginia: Virginia Outdoor Foundation - Conservation easement - 04/28/08 07:11 PM
When you see this sign, take note:
This sign says: "This property is forever protected by a conservation easement. Virginia Outdoors Foundation"
We have a lot of land in Albelmarle that is under conservation easement and this is one of the reasons that our area is so green and beautiful. If you have a large track of land, consider an easement to keep out area looking the way it does.
For more details visit: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/land_conservation/howto07.shtml
Or for a link to the Virginia Land Conservation directory of land trusts visit:
http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/land_conservation/documents/landcondir.pdf
If you have land in an easement, I applaud you for keeping Virginia Beautiful!!!

virginia: Historic Garden Week in Virginia - 04/14/08 12:43 PM
75th Anniversary of the Historic Garden Week in Virginia
April 19-27, 2008
(presented by the garden club of Virginia)
This is an incredible event where some of the finest homes and estates are open to the public in Virginia. Several years ago, my wife dragged me to this event and now i am the one doing the dragging! lol
Starting in 1929 by the Garden Club of Virginia, the Historic Garden Week tours have been held annually, except for a period during World War II. Proceeds from the event benefit the restoration of significant historic landscapes in Virginia.
From Albemarle to Winchester there will be a … (14 comments)

virginia: Greene County Virginia Home Information - YTD 3/18/2008 - 03/18/08 02:46 PM
Greene County Virginia Home Information - YTD 3/18/2008
Greene County is just North of Charlottesville and offers beautiful properties at great prices. I recently compared the cost of new construction from Greene to Albemarle and was shocked at the difference (my clients are made aware of these comparisons). When you are looking for Charlottesville Real Estate remember Greene County as it is not far from Charlottesville and has some great vistas!!!
The Real Estate market everywhere is constantly changing and Greene County Virginia is too.
In Greene we have SOLD 32 HOMES. There are currently 209 HOMES on the market. Our average DOM (Days on … (1 comments)

virginia: More Gems in Charlottesville! - 12/29/07 06:43 PM
There is such a variaty of home available in Charlottesville and the surrounding Albemarle it is hard to describe. We, have small neighborhoods to large mulit-acre lot neighborhoods. We also have a great selection of farms and estates. Wonderful Views are all around and we are close to UVA and Jefferson's Monticello.
You really need to come see what we have to offer and below I have put together a few homes just to give you some ideas of what Real Estate is currently on the market:
When you are ready to take a tour and see some of the homes in the Charlottesville area, … (10 comments)

virginia: Can an AGENT sell anywhere in the State? - 12/19/07 04:38 PM
The answer is YES, But should they?
To me the correct answer is that an agent should sell where they are the expert.
I am licenced to Sell Real Estate in the Commonwealth of Virginia but that does not mean, I will sell homes anywhere in Virginia.
I will only sell homes in my area and specifically where I am an expert.

I recently had a conversation with a prospect (who had been looking and working with an agent from a different area, about 3 hours from Charlottesville) who asked me to help them look at some homes in my area. … (99 comments)

virginia: Another 48 Hours (not the movie) - 11/29/07 02:16 PM

No Not the Movie with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte! Although that is worth a mention too!!!
It is just 48 Hours to the big event!
we have been getting ready for this event for several months!
Then invitations have been sent to clients and friends! (Heck all my clients are friends!)
The decorations are hung (with care) in our home and in our yard!
We have reindeer and several wreaths!
My family has even decorated the Christmas Tree early this year!

Some might say I have gone overboard, since I even decorated my Truck! But hey, I do this every year!
I have been asked how I do this... easy just add … (20 comments)

virginia: Your Vehicle says a lot about your Business! - 11/28/07 10:43 AM

The vehicle that you drive does say a lot about you and your business.
I live in Charlottesville Virginia and I sell Homes, Land, Farms and Estates!
I drive a Truck and that puts out a certain image. Most people are very comfortable with a Truck that has a Crew Cab. Not to mention that when showing Land I often am in 4WD and driving properties.
When you see me driving down the road you can very quickly see that I am in Real Estate. There are several clues!

First of all, I do have a REALTOR® Licence Plate.

At the bottom it advertises that … (85 comments)

virginia: SMART HOMES!!! (watch and learn) - 10/26/07 04:02 PM

I recently received some detailed information that I think most agents should at the very least know about.
It is about Smart Homes and Smart Wiring. We hear these terms in new construction but this is one of the first videos I have seen on smart wiring.
(Click on this link to see video)
it takes about 3 mins to watch.
DISCLAIMER : I am not affiliated in any way with Bayview Construction.
They are saying that "in 8-10 years your clients will be glad they have wiring for Smart homes inside their walls.  Equate this with the old phone and TV connections in every room, … (16 comments)

virginia: HUMPBACK OVERLOOK – CAUTION PHOTOS!!! - 10/15/07 12:07 PM
Over the weekend, we took a climb up Humpback Gap Overlook (Elevation 2360).
My kids made the trip with no problems, mom and dad had a little more of a challenge.
The Trail starts out meandering through the woods just off Skyline Drive near Rockfish Gap. (This is our first glimpse of the Rock)
They say it is a 4 mile round trip, which is about right because we took over 2 hours. (Thank goodness for Stairs)
Here is our first view!
We ate lunch with an even more incredible view!

Then there was the hike back down!!!
It was a good day, spent with the family … (62 comments)

virginia: FALL (in love) in VIRGINIA! - 10/12/07 01:59 AM
This is my favorite time of year and we just LOVE it here in Virginia!
The leaves are changing colors, the kids are picking out costumes and there are pumpkins everywhere!
We have a lot of events that celebrate this time of year in Virginia.
Festivals, Contests and Apple Pickin! The kids have events at school so there is a lot for all of us to do. I live in an area called Ivy and there is not a lot of ivy but there is a lot of Fall colors in my yard!
I ran across this website that tracks the fall colors, … (31 comments)

virginia: GUEST BATH - Before and After - 10/10/07 10:43 AM
We recently remodled our Guest Bath. Our home was a builder spec home with very limited upgrades.

BEFORE - Note the drop in tub...very standard bath, a little blah...

AFTER - We installed a new tub, Full tile and even tile wainscoting around the entire bath.
Total cost of this make-over $2,500. Not including towels and the elephant (not sure if he will stay or not)
I highly recommend our tile contractor to my clients. Feel free to drop me an email or call if you need a referral.

virginia: Border Collie steals the show! - 10/01/07 03:25 PM
Many of you know I have a couple of dogs and one is a Border Collie. I love dogs and I am amazed at how smart they are.
Coming up on Oct 6-7 at Montpelier (Orange County, Virginia) is the:
Fall Fiber Festival & Montpelier Sheep Dog Trials!
This event shows off weavers, spinners, artisans and crafters! There are several breeds of sheep and goats. But the fun to me is when the "border collies" show off their herding skills!
Come by for the fun, if you see me please stop by and say hello!

This is the main draw of the event but there is a lot more going on. Big hats, proper attire and even some fancy tailgating!  If you read my blog, you know that my wife and I walk everyday in our area. virginia: New Construction vs Resale (((are you nuts?))) - 09/10/07 02:40 PM
So am I nuts???
Everyone is saying this is a "Buyers Market" and there is no question about that! Buyers and hesitant to just buy, but I say why not Build!!!
Why would you want to "build" right now vs buy a resale?   (((3 Reasons)))
1. Interest rates are low
2. Builders have to sell homes and you can make incredible deals!
3. You actually get the "Home of your DREAMS!!!"

Contact me for details about New Construction in and around Charlottesville Virginia!

virginia: Why is my Agent so Vague? - 09/09/07 08:36 AM

Schools - It may sound vague when an agent talks about schools but Buyer and Listing agents can not "steer" a client to or from a school.
Crime - I hear it all the time, how is the crime in this area. Again an agent will be vague and refer you to a website or the police dept.
Race and Religion - Who lives in this neighborhood. This is a biggie. Think about this for a minute, agents can not give you a cross reference of nationalities or religion in an area. We can not even tell you if there are … (129 comments)
