It's Time to Keep it Simple! - A Staging Hint

The stagers and agents of the world will agree - get rid of the clutter, place some key warmth in your home, and make sure it smells good!    A symbol from ages ago of warmth and happiness is a bowl of apples on a table where all gather.   The home mood needs to be clean and warm.  In other words, keep it simple.

A super simple center of the table decor for the table will be much more attractive than the empty nothingness or salt and … (11 comments)

The Kitchen Triangle- How important? - 02/24/10 04:12 PM
The Kitchen Triangle - How Important?

Do you remember years ago in your mother's tiny kitchen, she seemed to be able to pull off cooking for a huge crowd, and without too much trouble!    She could cook for a small crowd of 8 (the family), or she could pull off a dinner party for 30 with equal ease.    The kitchen was always the smallest room in the house, practically,  but always functioned well, due to the placement of all of the main appliances.    This is home design at its best.

The main appliances were, of course, … (14 comments)

Seasonal Affective Disorder? - 02/23/10 05:21 PM
Seasonal Affective Disorder?

"A mental malady having everything to do with latitude."

In Northern climates, such as New England, winter daylight hours are in shorter supply, and over 20% of the population suffers from mild-to-serious depression, whereas in balmy Florida - closer to the equator- with plenty of daylight year-round, it is merely 1%.    Small wonder then, that the northern climates have a very large group of  folks who are climbing the walls, as we are in Wilton, CT.

The cure?   A little dreaming and planning in the earlier months of the year for your … (4 comments)

The weather is not as nice in CT as in Vancouver! - 02/19/10 01:23 PM
In CT, we have had snowstorm after snow storm.    Last year, in January, my witch hazel chose to bloom!   Gorgeous yellow blossoms all over it, lasting for a month.   It carried us through until we got crocuses in March.

This year, however, not a one open yet, and we're nearing the end of February.  That means we won't see our crocuses until April this year!

Market Trends in Fairfield County - 02/18/10 03:30 PM
It's amazing how the market fluctuates from town to town...  If you stop to analyze these numbers, you will see that each category aor town is different as to how they reacted to this market of the past several years....   Some towns are "hot" and some are not....
Fairfield was very hot, and Wilton and Weston were not.
Perhaps it had something to do with the dirty word.....  construction??????  Route 7??????

Homes Sold in Weston, CT 2009 vs. 2010 - 02/17/10 09:41 AM

The market in Weston, CT has picked up, and is a slowly recuperating patient.   There were more homes sold this January, and in fewer days on average.  The average price has also increased, slightly, but all is hopeful.
The interest rates being as low as they are, and the prices remaining depressed, will create a good spring for the towns of Wilton, Weston, Faiefield, Norwalk, Redding, and Ridgefield.
The four year construction of Route 7, going through the middle of all of these towns, in particular, Wilton, has also contributed to the slowdown of sales.  Now that all construction … (3 comments)

THE WOW FACTOR! - 02/12/10 04:39 PM
THE WOW FACTOR!

FIDO'S FOOD BIN, an absolutely amazing pet supply store, has an extremely loyal following for miles around.   I stopped by today to say "Hello" and Liz immediately asked, "Is it time already?"   (I collect wonderful donations from the community stores to distribute to the returning Survivors during their celebration dinner at the Relay For Life each year in May. - They always contribute!)
I told her "No," and went on to explain that I was just at the Village Market, and thought I would stop in.   A gal walked in with her … (3 comments)

Ethical Question...... to report, or not to???? - 02/12/10 09:22 AM
Ethical Question....  to report, or not to????

If you knew that an agent listed a home on the mls without a signed agreement with the homeowner, what would you do?  I have checked with our mls, and it is a HUGE violation.  However, the only way it can be reported is to drag in the home owner, who would rather not get involved in a legal mess.    So, does this violation just go on without any repercussions?
The home owner is no longer working with the agent, and no longer interested in selling her home, … (15 comments)

A New Greenway Along our Route 7 in Wilton! - 02/11/10 09:36 PM
A New Greenway Along our Route 7 in Wilton!

There is substantial rumoring about a new "Greenway" along Route 7 here in Wilton.     Years ago, the state bought up, using eminent domain, a lot of land along the old Route 7.       The intention was to build a huge Super 7 the whole way from Danbury to Norwalk.     Norwalk approved the state's building a Super 7 through most of the town, to the Wilton border.       There it stopped, as Wilton wasn't so sure that this was what was in the … (4 comments)

Deer Fencing for Dummies in Wilton, CT - 02/10/10 10:14 PM
Deer Fencing For Dummies in Wilton, Ct

Here in Wilton, CT, we seemed to have an unbelievable number of deer years ago.   I  was always appalled when I would take my little kids out to the swing set and find these wonderful little piles of deer pellets.    This seemed a little disgusting to me.   So, I decided to take action.

In a very short time, I was able to string electric wire to rebar posts, using the proper  porcelain insulators to attach them.  Three wires about a foot apart strung from rebar post to rebar … (6 comments)

Does your Town Allow Plastic Bags? - 02/05/10 10:02 PM
Does your Town Allow Plastic Bags?
Wilton, CT has just put out the idea that they will ban plastic bags in all stores within the next six months.   I thought that it had already been passed, but then read "probably six months....."   What is there to think about?   Are they worried about the stores' inventories of bags?   Who cares?  Let's get started!   Besides, there are some amazingly cool bags out there!

Westport, CT, the neighboring town, has had a ban in place for a while, and found there was no resistence to it anywhere.    Stores, public, - all love … (16 comments)

Turnover Shop in Wilton, CT - 02/04/10 08:54 PM

The Turnover Shop in Wilton, CT is located just around the corner and below the Wilton Village Market (best food store in town!)
This shop benefits the Wilton school system - all donations and monies made go directly to the schools in town.   They have a wonderful system, whereby one can pop in anytime between 10 am and 4 pm and just drop donations, pick up a donation tax sheet, and out you go.   If you wanted to consign items, you would need to go between 10 am and noon on only Tuesdays and Thursdays.   Most everyone just drops donations from … (4 comments)

SCOOP up an Ice Cream in Wilton, CT with "SCOOPS !!!" - 02/01/10 05:33 PM
SCOOP up an Ice Cream in Wilton, CT with "SCOOPS !!!"
SCOOPS was opened over 25 years ago in Wilton, CT by two local women who found a huge need for a place to go to take the kids for ice cream.   Wilton had bookstores, florists, markets, banks, clothing and sports and hardware stores, but no "treat" stores.   So, these two very good friends of mine named Care Heeks and Shelly Lawson opened one.  What is it they say?  Find a need, and fill it!  That they did.
All of the kids' sports teams go straight to Scoops to celebrate their … (6 comments)
