real estate: You say hello, and I say Goodbye - to save Ringo Starr's first home or not? - 01/04/11 09:50 AM
Liverpool, England - Where Ringo Starr, possibly the world's most famous drummers (was there ever a drummer's name a household word before Ringo?) lived until he was 3.

Demolition of this historic home has been at least temporarily halted, which is giving the local community time to react, petition and possibly succeed in saving Ringo's first home.

real estate: Double Dip? - 12/31/10 12:10 AM
It surely seems as though this is where we are heading with the real estate market:

Here's the brief version:

Home prices in major metropolitan areas fell 1.3% from September to October Many economists believe that the gains from Spring 2009 will be wiped out by declines in 2010 Unemployment rose to 9.8% last month Demand is non-existent Supply is still growing Mortgage rates are increasing slightly NAR claims that 30% of sales have come from distressed situations Given the supply, Wells Fargo projects that prices will drop by 8% in 2011 The simple truth … (4 comments)

real estate: Playing Nice - 12/16/10 12:20 AM

Playing nice doesn't always happen (and hardly ever in the real estate business - where everyone is guarded, stays to themselves) but when there is synergy, things happen, the moment when one of the parties decides not to cooperate - everything comes to a stop. We can learn life lessons from our furry friends.

I was prompted by something this week to write about this....to protect the innocent, I cannot divulge anymore, but if there had been more synergy, perhaps there could have been a split deal within the office, rather than having the client go elsewhere...a bit cryptic … (7 comments)

real estate: River Oaks Town Homes in North Stamford, CT - 12/15/10 11:30 AM
The backdrop for our office party was a beautiful enclave of town home condos -  centrally located off Long Ridge Rd in Stamford, CT. It was a great setting for the William Raveis Greenwich office party. Our VP, Beckie Hanley, along with another Raveis agent, scored the clubhouse, perfectly sized to produce an intimate, warm feeling that we can all appreciate. Lynette Clemens, the Greenwich office manager, also contributed as did quite a few other associates. Christmas brings out the best in people - you wish that life could always be this way.

real estate: Cyber Envy! - 12/02/10 12:19 AM
"Cyber-Monday' Sales Surpass $1B
We know what you're doing at work: Online sales on Cyber-Monday-the Monday following Thanksgiving-surpassed $1 billion for the first time, and nearly half those sales came from work computers. The overall figure is up 16 percent from last year and goes nicely with record online sales on Black Friday, as well." -

real estate: Did someone not get paid? They'll drink to that! - 12/01/10 10:13 AM

According to the Wilton, CT police,  sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 and 7:30 a.m. the next morning, vandals gained access to a home at 32 Charter Oak Dr., Wilton, CT and ruined a large portion of the expensive renovations being done on the property. One of the contractors working on the project estimated the damage around $60,000.

"The owners had moved out and are living elsewhere," Lieutenant Don Wakeman said. "But in the meantime, these [unknown individuals] caused a tremendous amount of damage."
Because of the work being conducted on the property, the residence was unlocked … (3 comments)

real estate: The Most Expensive Home per Sq.Ft compared with the same value in Greenwich, CT - 11/29/10 04:46 AM

Take a guess at what is the most expensive home is in the US at the moment. It's NOT Candy Spelling's Holmby Hills, Calif. 56,000+ square foot mansion, listed at $150 million or $2700 per sq. ft.

Per square foot, the most expensive house is this beachfront shack in Carpinteria, Calif.

This little gem is listed at $5.3 million for a snug 641 square feet -- comes out to a higher per-square-foot price.  The the agent for the home, John Henderson, claims it's actually a relatively spacious 750 square feet or $7,000 per sq.ft. -  making it the … (0 comments)

real estate: URGENT! - 11/22/10 09:52 PM
What works for success in sales in 2010? Tenacity? "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again." The "in your face approach"? - "The sqeaky wheel gets the oil" The aloof approach? "You need me more than I need you." Creating a sense of Urgency "For a limited time only" When I was selling high end fashion apparel, we would  never beg for the order. You had to resist over-selling, when presenting and you never made it seem as though you were desperate for their business. When you wanted their order, you could ask for it, but it was … (2 comments)

real estate: Printed Treasures - 11/19/10 02:48 AM
Whether it is a sentimental pictorial journey for old time sake, or a cathartic release of grief (like this one that I created after losing 2 kitties within a short time), or a brag book for your business achievements, or a house closing gift for your clients...

My Publisher offers one of the best quality self-publishing books that I have ever seen. They always have terrific specials, lead times are short, and the result is amazing. It is user friendly for first timers.

real estate: SFH Looking for Mr. Right - 11/18/10 10:38 PM
The right situation is often hard to find, so this may help to save time for both of us.
I am white (although you don't have to be), born in 1966 (although your age is not a criteria for me). I am great shape, entertaining and family are positives and my surroundings are beautiful, clean and well maintained...actually, I just had a facelift and I feel like a million!
If you travel a lot, you'll only get support from me, and when you want to be with me, I am warm and inviting. When you need to get away, I get … (5 comments)

real estate: If these walls culd talk.... - 11/17/10 10:00 AM
See any resemblance?

Sopot Poland

Designed by architect Szotynscy Zaleski

Inspired by children's illustrations created by Jan Marcin Szancer for fairytales and by the artwork of Per Dahlberg. The home features three stories and is built with the surrounding buidlings in mind,  to give it the feel as though it belongs in the area but perhaps melted or sagged out of exhaustion.

P.S. Now take the Frank Ghery building at Ground Zero

real estate: Young Green Home Buyers - 11/15/10 09:44 PM

OK - so the entrepreneur, Michael de Jong for MEKA luxury modular  homes was after publicity in placing it temporarily in the West Village in NYC, and actually presented a tour to hollywood producer John Kilik and artist Julian Schnable, who lives a block away from the Charles street location of MEKA's pop up home. This one is made from a shipping container and took about 5 days to assemble on site.

Without a mortgage document, holders of loans have no legal right to a mortgage. Up to 1/3 of all mortgage "notes" which equals $3.7 trillion in U.S. mortgages are supposedly missing according to the American Bankrupcy Institute. This was determined earlier this year in a little publicized study conducted by the institute.

Investments that are bought for something that doesn't exist is commonplace, especially with commodities trading and often superficially drives prices by speculative investors. Many of the Wall Street trades were done with "Lost Note Affidavits" for mortgage securities, which were meant … (7 comments)

real estate: The House of Bliss - 11/10/10 05:03 AM
You may never want to leave once you step foot inside this lovely home. It is one of my favorite homes currently on the market in Cos Cob, CT (Greenwich) and for those of you who are not familiar, this is between Old Greenwich and Riverside - among the 4 areas of Greenwich.
15 HORSESHOE RD - COS COB
$1,550,000

It feels tranquil and private before you ever enter the house itself - privately set back from the road with a gated entry. The stone walls welcome you, and integrate with the natural surroundings. That's just the beginning, because towards … (0 comments)
