children: Thankful Thursdays ~ WatsonBagSwag's designs - 08/27/19 03:04 PM
I love my daughter-in-laws company WatsonBagSwag! They make the most creative bag swags to buy for kids to help connect to other kids. Encouraging kids to get their noses out of electronic devices and making contact with others is a good thing. Erika Dunham and her friend started this company last fall which I wrote about in my post.
I've found kids love them! I'm including one on top of my clients closing gift because I think their sweet daughter Lucia will love this bag tag to put on her backpack.
There are so many creative designs to choose from its easy … (16 comments)

children: Thankful Thursdays ~ A Child's Boundless Imagination - 03/10/11 08:36 AM
Our grandson who is in the 6th grade and 12 1/2 soon to be 13 is quite the little inventor.  His mind is always focused on how things work.  I still remember him asking Paw Paw one day (when he was 7) as we were leaving their house "How does electricity come into our house?"
Paw Paw proceeded to use their tile floor as a grid and explained the process to him as he intently listened!
Russell loves to ride his bike and he and his dad find many thrills in riding at different race tracks to test their skills!

children: Showing the next generation how to be grateful - 11/23/10 11:16 PM
I enjoy reading Great Schools and this post on grateful children peeked my interest:
The Grateful Child
We have the privilege of being able to watch and participate in the lives of our 5 grandchildren.  They are each their own personality and we see firsthand that grateful children are healthier and happier.  We love to attend their activities they are trying on for size.  After all you don't know if you like to play soccer, volleyball, football or play the piano until you try.  We are there to "be there" for them and let them know we are proud and support … (18 comments)

children: It's nice to be important...it's more important to be nice - 11/22/10 04:41 AM
One of my husband's mantras is: "It's nice to be important..it's more important to be nice".  We know how fortunate we are to have 5 wonderful grandchildren. Our oldest granddaughter is 14 and (no prejudice of course) is the sweetest, most even tempered and gracious young lady.  Her folks are to be commended on their parental skills because this young lady exhibits great self-confidence, a conscience and wisdom beyond her young years.
With everyone's busy schedule it isn't always easy to have time to spend together.  Whenever an occasion arises we jump at the chance to have a moment of her time. … (5 comments)

children: The Be Thankful Challenge - 11/07/10 12:04 AM
Okay here is post #4 for my continued quest to highlight thankful things in my life.  I am blessed to have an older sister and younger brother (yes I am the middle child).
My brother is married to a crazy gal, Kathy, who when she and Geno get together...stand by (just ask Kathy about the bongo drums)!  They have two grown children.
My sister is a widow, has 2 children and is enjoying much excitement  in her life right now, but that is a whole other blog!
I am very thankful to have them in my life!

children: The Be Thankful Challenge - 11/06/10 01:38 AM
Joni Staples got me started after reading her post she wrote about accepting the challenge when she read Lisa Lambert and Donna Foresters posts!  A post a day on something we are thankful for is the quest!  No points just a challenge to remind us of our bounty in life.

At the top of my hit parade are our darling 5 grandchildren!  From ages fourteen to nine our energetic angels are growing up and blessing us each day with their creativity and boundless zest for life.  I am grateful each day … (26 comments)

children: The Be Thankful Challenge - 11/05/10 10:19 AM
I'm getting in the swing of  "the be thankful challenge"!  I have a daughter, Melissa, a son John and a stepson Jeff.  All are very important to me.  Melissa was my first born child and John was the baby, Jeff came into the fold later in life.
Rose Kennedy's quote sums up my outlook on motherhood:
"I look on child-rearing not only as a work of  love and duty, but, as a profession that was fully as interesting and challenging as any honorable profession in the world and one that demanded the best I could bring to it."

children: Great Truths From Children - 04/26/10 07:19 AM
Kids say the darndest things!  Curt VanDerwerff compiled some inspiring advice given by children:
* Never ask your 3 year old brother to hold a tomato.* Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.* Never hold a dust buster and a cat at the same time.* Puppies still have bad breath after eating a tic tac.* You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.

children: Children Say The Darndest Things - 04/19/10 05:39 AM

Out of the mouths of children come perceptions through innocent eyes. Curt VanDerwerff recently struck a chord with me and made me laugh.  I hope they bring a smile to you this Monday:
** No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.** When your mom is mad at your dad, don't let her brush your hair.** If you sister hits you, don't hit her back.  They always catch the   second person.** You can't trust dogs to watch your food.** Reading what people write on your desks can teach you a lot.** The best place to be when you … (14 comments)

children: It's Miller Time! - 03/08/10 05:39 AM
Time has a way of flying by!  My mother had two sisters, their last name was Miller and they were born in Kansas.
Their parents died in 1917 due to the plague and they were raised by extended family.  There are 5 daughters left to carry on their memories and we just got together in Florida!  Our reunion was centering on having fun, reminiscing, sharing stories, experiencing great food, gathering pictures and building a book filled with memories!  My sister trekked from Pittsburgh, another cousin came from Iowa and I came from Austin to stay with our two cousins who live … (18 comments)

children: Brings a Tear To Your eye - 03/05/10 07:25 AM

Children always have a way of putting things in perspective!  Their logical thinking often times smarts!  Here is a cute story that will make every Grandpa out there smile.
A six year old goes to the hospital with her grandmother, to visit her grandpa. When they get to the hospital, she sprints ahead of her Grandma and bursts into here Grandpa's room.

"Grandpa, Grandpa," she says excitedly, "As soon as Grandma comes into the room, make a noise like a frog!""What?" says her Grandpa."Make a noise like a frog, because Grandma said that as soon as … (29 comments)

children: Life's Two Main Questions..... - 07/15/09 06:25 AM
Life really boils down to just two questions:
1. Should I get a dog?

OR....

2. Should I have children?

One of life's real dilemmas!  No matter which answer you choose, it's times like these that bring a smile to your face, a chuckle to your heart and create memories that will last a lifetime!

children: A GIFT OF MENTORING ~ RRISD ~ AUSTIN, TEXAS - 01/02/09 07:52 AM
Mentoring continues to be the most effective way to pass on skills, knowledge and wisdom.  It's a tradition that has withstood the test of time and today is widely in practice.  It's a commitment that many make which actually ends up making them a better person.  When giving with no thought of anything in return it is surprising to feel such a a sense of accomplishment.
In the U.S., January has been designated "National Mentoring Month".  In the Round Rock Independent School District there are more than 300 mentors who take time out of their lives to serve as a positive role … (2 comments)
