home inspector: Sharp-Tipped Screws Are A Hazard To A Home Inspector! - 07/02/11 01:48 PM
Sharp-Tipped Screws Are A Hazard To A Home Inspector!- Thank God I'm still alive! I just finished conducting a Poway home inspection that could have finished me! I look into the face of danger every day in the form of vicious dogs, high rooftops, 150-degree attics and so on, but at this particular home inspection I was almost done in by a sharp-tipped screw. Let me explain why sharp-tipped screws are a hazard to a home inspector:

When you open a typical electrical panel, you are looking at the dead-front cover. The dead-front cover holds the circuit breaker … (20 comments)

A Home Inspector's ActiveRain Success Story

I first heard about ActiveRain two months ago after an invitation by a buddy, Steve Hall of Re/Max United in San Diego County. Why not check out ActiveRain? I knew I needed help with search engine optimization for my home inspection business- my website was only showing up on page 10 or so when doing a Google search using my preferred search terms.

I began attending ActiveRain University whenever possible and started to implement the strategies taught. Blogging was new to me, so I committed to the 31-day May challenge knowing that … (25 comments)

How To Kill A Home Inspector

I am sometimes amazed at what I see during a home inspection. For example, take a look at the electric service panel I tried to inspect the other day. I think I'm going to start packing a machete in my vehicle so I can get access to these things! Per the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) Standards of Practice a home inspector is not required to put his life in danger to inspect a component. I always try to work around obstacles as much as possible to perform a thorough inspection … (11 comments)

Six Questions To Ask Before Hiring A Home Inspector Purchasing a home is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make. Shouldn't that decision be an informed one? The sewer line (lateral) between the house and the municipal connection (in the street) may still need repairs. Tree roots may have grown into the sewer line, or the line may be deteriorated or crushed causing blockage. If so, repairs will have to be made to ensure a free-flowing drain system.

Electrical Issues Found at Temecula Home Inspection

Electrical issues are probably the most common type of defect found during home inspections here in southern California, followed closely by moisture intrusion issues. Improper electrical installations can pose a serious fire or shock hazard to the homeowner. Numerous electrical issues are often found when conducting a Temecula home inspection.

Some of the most prevalent electrical defects I come across are double-tapped wires in electrical panels, loose terminals in electrical panels resulting in melted/overheated wires, improper configuration of the neutral and ground wires in sub-panels, and lack … (3 comments)

Mountain-Biking Home Inspector in Poway, CA Tackles Iron Mtn.

In between home inspections, one of the favorite things I enjoy is mountain biking. I recently had the opportunity to, once again, get the bike wheels rolling after a home inspection in Poway. I have driven by Iron Mtn. in Poway, CA countless times in my home inspection travels, and the place is always busy with hikers and bikers enjoying the great outdoors, but I had never stopped to see what all the interest was about.

This day, before leaving the office for my home inspection, I loaded … (8 comments)
