rotary: Jackson Hole, Wyoming: Town Square Antler Arches - 06/08/11 09:02 AM
How many antlers does it take to make one of the Antler Arches on the Jackson Hole town square?
The Town Square has an antler arch on each of its four corners, which have served as the backdrop for countless photographs taken by visitors to Jackson Hole. We get an estimated 3,000,000 visitors each year, and I'll bet that half of them stop for a photograph in front of the arches before they head over to the Cowboy Bar for another photo op on a saddle at the bar.
The arches were built around 1950, and have slowly deteriorated. Over the … (7 comments)

rotary: Highway Clean Up Day - 05/08/09 03:04 PM
Tomorrow is our Rotary-sponsored Highway Clean Up Day! Jackson Hole is an amazingly beautiful place, but you wouldn't always know it after the snow has melted and the sides of the highway are littered with a winter's worth of trash. Rotary organizes this annual event, and we get a great turnout from the town, with hundreds volunteering to pick up trash along the roadsides. We spend a morning picking up and bagging hundreds of garbage bags, then head for the Town Square for a hamburger cookout. The food's free, and the morning spent together in fellowship brings us all together once … (1 comments)

rotary: It's Cool To Be Noticed - 01/06/09 07:29 AM
At our Rotary lunch meeting today, our guest speaker started out by saying "It's cool to be noticed." That struck me as such an innocent and revealing comment, and such a true one as well. The speaker was a high school girl being recognized for her hard work in overcoming a difficult family situation and doing well in school. For her hard work, 100 people stood and clapped, and gave her an award.
Miss that feeling? Put in some hard work, and you'll be rewarded too.

rotary: Ring the Bell for Salvation Army - 12/14/08 04:21 AM
Here's another project idea for your Rotary club. Every year our club mans the Salvation Army buckets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Salvation Army provides the buckets and bells, and club members sign up for one hour shifts to ring the bell. We ring the bell on Saturday and Sunday afternoons/evenings on the most popular shopping weekend days of the holidays. This season especially, the Salvation Army needs the help and funds.
Build goodwill and friendships,
Get your club involved - ring the bell!

rotary: Join Rotary - a win win proposition - 12/02/08 09:26 AM
This afternoon I was nominated to be the president-elect of our Rotary lunch club. Which got me thinking about all the benefits that Rotary brings me. Besides the satisfaction and good feeling that comes from participating in our many community/world benefit projects (trash pick up, fund raising for scholarships, polio eradication campaign, donating ambulances to villages in Mexico...), there is a very obvious professional benefit to me as well - networking.
Each week, I get to spend an hour at lunch with fellow business owners in town, and we earn each other's respect by virtue of our dedication to the common … (7 comments)
