atlanta: Tree Lighting Ceremony - Concourse at Perimeter- Atlanta, GA - 11/21/08 10:17 AM
There is a Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday December 1, 2008 at the Concourse at Perimeter in Atlanta, GA. It’s the Inaugural Event of “Love Lights a Tree.” Why is this tree lighting ceremony different than any other? It is a celebration of those who have given and received the gift of life through Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation and Transplantation.
It’s a big deal to me because I am a living donor. I donated a kidney to my brother 4 and a half years ago. The proceeds from Love Lights A Tree help support Donate Life Georgia's mission to save … (0 comments)

atlanta: I'm a re-run on HGTV - My First Place - 11/21/08 04:56 AM
It's official.  I have become a re-run on HGTV. 2 years ago we started filming a show called My First Place.  It's a show about First Time Home Buyers and the drama that can go along with it.  The show filmed me and my business partner Tracy Haskins with a couple that was buying their first home.  Filming took more than 40 long hours condensed into a show that is just 22 minutes without commercials. What you don't see is that we were filming at midnight on a couple of occasions to try to coordinate with everyone's schedules.  The camera also doesn't … (38 comments)

atlanta: Save Granmaw Gordon- Benefit Event - 11/11/08 11:59 PM
Granny Jam (benefiting the Granmaw Gordon Greenspace) will be this Saturday November 15, 2008 from 5-9 pm at the E-church (First Existentialist Congregation) at 470 Candler Park Drive, Atlanta, GA.
If you haven't heard about Granmaw Gordon, "she" is a historic pecan tree in the last greenspace available on Dekalb Ave in Atlanta. Not only is she original to the Sutherland Estate - owned by former Georgia Governor and Senator Gen. John B. Gordon, but this particular tree appears resistant to Pecan Scab, a fungus that costs Pecan growers across the Southeast millions of dollars. The USDA is interested in testing it further to determine if Granmaw … (3 comments)

Well, text speak must be here to stay! I am seeing it everywhere and we just received some info on it from our cell phone provider.

atlanta: Free State Park Passes at the Library? - 09/18/08 04:16 PM
When was the last time you went to the Dekalb County Public Library?  If you are not familiar with it, you'll want to check it out.   There are 22 branches of the library, so there is probably one near you.  One of the best features I like is being able to search the library database from the comfort of my own home. I can go online and choose what I want, which is usually a different fitness DVD. The library will then email me to let me know that my selection has arrived at the branch I choose.  I go pick … (4 comments)

atlanta: Where were you when the world stopped turning, 7 years ago, September 11? - 09/10/08 11:59 PM
I can't believe it's been 7 years ago since 9/11.  I think about my young nieces and nephews, they weren't even born yet.  I think today is a good day to reflect on 9/11 and think about where you were or what you were doing.  How did your life change...did you start to appreciate the little things in life, stop sweating the small stuff? I had just gotten back to Atlanta, GA from a vacation to Alaska.  Alaska is an amazing beautiful place and I suggest everyone try to get there at least once in their lives, oops I digress.
