activerain community support: Get Posterous-ized... - 11/25/09 01:09 PM
Let's get the first part out of the way...  It is pronounced pa-stir-us... like in preposterous... which would be "life before Posterous."
Posterous is a blogging site...  and if you are playing in social media, you really need to get onto it if you aren't already.  In fact, I will be including it in the future when I talk about the places that agents MUST have a presence.  It is THAT important...
It isn't because of the audience, nor is it because of the name.  It is because of the integration capability.  It is one of the coolest options for syndicating … (13 comments)

activerain community support: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part V... Some Random Musings... - 10/21/09 06:17 AM
No, the series isn't wrapping up...  But there are a few things that I have wanted to say that were too short for their own post, but didn't fit neatly in other posts...
Community...
Active Rain is a social network, at least as much as FaceBook, and certainly more that Twitter (for most users).  What I mean by this is that there are amny things happening here, just like a community.  There are groups of people with similar interests, just like a community.  And there are lots of opportunities to get together and meet others... just like a community.
The … (5 comments)

activerain community support: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part IV... Beyond the Blog - 10/19/09 03:43 PM
You've set up your Active Rain account (hopefully you are a RainMaker).  You have tuned your profile to be cooler than than 803.6% of the other ones here.  You have lurked and learned around the network.  And then you wrote (and hopefully published) a few blog posts.
What more could there possibly be?
There are a load of other things to do, and like building a hot rod, it is work that is never done.  There are always new tools and new subjects.  But we have the big things well under way.  Now it is time to get your blog … (4 comments)

activerain community support: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part III... Ready to Blog, Now what? - 10/18/09 04:25 PM
OK, so you've joined Active Rain, tweaked your profile (Part I), started to do a little lurking (Part II)... now you are ready to hit the ground and run.
Step 1...
Let go of perfection.  Many of us want every post to be perfect.  Let go...  It isn't going to happen.  The ONLY thing that you will get from trying to make all of your posts perfect is a lack of posts.
Make it good... Use tools like spell check... If you are concerned, have someone else read it first... Remember that even after you post it, you CAN edit.  I … (9 comments)

activerain community support: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part II... Where to Start? - 10/17/09 05:28 PM
For someone diving into Active Rain to really get the most out of it, it can be a pretty daunting task.  There are more than 162,000 members and there are literally thousands of blogs posted every day.  There are industry leaders, incredible performers and hugely interesting people posting up information all of the time.
NOBODY can keep up with everything on Active Rain.  At least not is they plan on sleeping or working or remembering our families.
So, we need a shallow end... somewhere to dip in a toe...
While I think that having a blog is something that every good … (7 comments)

activerain community support: Lane's Active Rain Ambassador Series - Part I... Your Profile - 10/16/09 04:55 AM
One of the very first things a new member to Active Rain should do is "tune their profile".  In order to wring the most performance out of it, we have to make sure it is optimized...
Here are a few things we are optimizing for:
Keyword rich, location and niche specific content (for Search Engine Optimization... SEO) Reader friendly layout (pictures... tagged of course, for SEO) Rich media presentation (more tagged pictures as well as video... excellent for SEO) Testimonials.  Consumers LOVE testimonials... especially video testimonials Links to other sites... passing some "link love" You will notice that a lot of … (42 comments)

activerain community support: 8 Tools the Modern Real Estate Agent HAS to Have... #1 - 08/14/09 02:27 PM
OK, these are presented in any specific order... but over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting up useful tools for real estate agents to utilize in a Web 2.0 world.  There are so many tools, sites and technologies... and every day there are new ones entering our sights.
For many here, the first tool is going to seem like a no-brainer...
Active|Rain...
There are three aspects of Active|Rain, and I think that a real estate agent that wants to compete in a Web 2.0 world needs to leverage all three in order to accomplish that goal.  Each has … (68 comments)

activerain community support: I'm an Active|Rain Ambassador... so now what? - 07/13/09 03:08 PM
Well... I have a few ideas.  I already have a pretty full schedule of social networking events... and so now I get to add Active|Rain activities to it... and I'm really excited about that.
Actually, as soon as the training call that I missed comes online, I am going to listen to that, but I still have some ideas...
Let me back up a couple of years...
I joined Active|Rain back in June of 2007.  I was searching on Google for some marketing ideas and hit some A|R posts... and some on another network.  I joined both and surfed around them.  … (16 comments)

activerain community support: A few Localism questions, answered by Active|Bob - 07/30/08 05:11 PM
In case you have been under a rock, there are a lot of folks with a LOT of questions regarding the new Localism and sponsorship opportunity.  Here is the edited version of the email I sent to Bob before the phone call...
Bob,
I have a few questions about the sponsorships for Localism... who knows, maybe one of us can make this a post...
For the areas that are under 40k population, if I buy the city directly, how does that affect communities within the city?  Do I own them?  Are they rolled into the city?  Are they still available for … (11 comments)

activerain community support: Post Parking... or where do you get all of your material? - 12/10/07 02:21 AM
I have two blogs and a dynamic (meaning not static) website.  All of these platforms thrive on fresh material on a timely basis.  In a couple of these cases, the timely basis means I have to put up a new post each day.  In another, I limit myself to around 10 posts a week (guess which one that is).  On the other, I just want to make sure that I have new content every few days.
So, I have to write ten posts a week for Active Rain.  Some of those will be posts that can go to LaneBailey.com and … (4 comments)

activerain community support: Free, Free, FREE... Nifty open source photo editor - 10/08/07 12:04 PM
So, without getting real wordy about how I came across this (it all has to do with the new website), let me tell you about a cool open source photo-editor I just came across.
It is called the GIMP.  That stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program.  GNU is one of the open source licensing protocols.  I guess it would be best summed up as the open source equivalent of PhotoShop.
If you aren't familiar with open source, it is a movement (sorry, but it really is) of mostly software geeks and engineers that create programs and then allow anyone to … (22 comments)
